¹⁷ Now the king had appointed the officer on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. But the people trampled him in the gate, and he died, just ^(A)as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

^2 (A)So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, ^(B)if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?”

And he said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

³² But Elisha was sitting in his house, and ^(A)the elders were sitting with him. And the king sent a man ahead of him, but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, ^(B)“Do you see how this son of ^(C)a murderer has sent someone to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door. Is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?”

^29 (A)Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, ^(B)counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, ^(C)and insulted the Spirit of grace?

³³ Then he said, “Throw her down.” So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot.

⁴³ They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and easily trampled them down as far as the front of Gibeah toward the east.
