¹⁵ And they went after them to the Jordan; and indeed all the road was full of garments and weapons which the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. So the messengers returned and told the king.

The Race of Faith

12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, ^(A)let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and ^(B)let us run ^(C)with endurance the race that is set before us,

⁷ But ^(A)what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. ⁸ Yet indeed I also count all things loss ^(B)for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ

¹⁶ “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. ¹⁷ Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. ¹⁸ And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.

²⁶ For what ^(A)profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or ^(B)what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

^31 (A)Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a ^(B)new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?

⁷ For in that day every man shall ^(A)throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—^(B)sin, which your own hands have made for yourselves.

²⁴ ‘They will hang on him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the posterity, all vessels of small quantity, from the cups to all the pitchers.
