¹⁰ So they went and called out to the city gatekeepers and told them, “We went into the Aramean camp and no one was there—not a sound of anyone—only tethered horses and donkeys, and the tents left just as they were.”

³⁴ It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants^(A) in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

³⁵ “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

A song of ascents. Of Solomon.

¹¹ The gatekeepers shouted the news, and it was reported within the palace.

⁶ for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound^(A) of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired^(B) the Hittite^(C) and Egyptian kings to attack us!” ⁷ So they got up and fled^(D) in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.

²⁶ Then the watchman saw another runner, and he called down to the gatekeeper, “Look, another man running alone!”

The king said, “He must be bringing good news,^(A) too.”
