^34 (A)It is like a man ^(B)going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants^[a] in charge, ^(C)each with his work, and commands ^(D)the doorkeeper to stay awake. ^35 (E)Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, ^(F)in the evening, or ^(G)at midnight, or ^(H)when the rooster crows,^[b] or ^(I)in the morning—

¹¹ Then the gatekeepers called out, and it was told within the king's household.

⁶ For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians ^(A)hear the sound of chariots and of horses, the sound of a great army, so that they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us ^(B)the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Egypt to come against us.” ^7 (C)So they fled away in the twilight and abandoned their tents, their horses, and their donkeys, leaving the camp as it was, and fled for their lives.

²⁶ The watchman saw another man running. And the watchman called to the gate and said, “See, another man running alone!” The king said, “He also brings news.”
