³¹ Then he said, ^(A)“God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat remains on him today!”

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ^(A)“So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.”

¹² And when it was day, ^(A)some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had ^(B)killed Paul. ¹³ Now there were more than forty who had formed this conspiracy.

^50 (A)nor do you consider that it is expedient for ^[a]us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.”

⁴ Therefore the princes said to the king, “Please, ^(A)let this man be put to death, for thus he ^[a]weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man does not seek the ^[b]welfare of this people, but their harm.”

¹⁵ Therefore the princes were angry with Jeremiah, and they struck him ^(A)and put him in prison in the ^(B)house of Jonathan the scribe. For they had made that the prison.

¹⁶ When Jeremiah entered ^(C)the dungeon and the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days,

⁸ So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.”

And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!”

¹⁷ Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, ^(A)“Is that you, O ^(B)troubler of Israel?”

²³ Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, ^(A)“May God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life!
