³¹ and he said, ^(A)“May God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today.”

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ^(A)“So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.”

¹⁷ Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. ^(A)May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.”

A Plot to Kill Paul

¹² When it was day, ^(A)the Jews made a plot and ^(B)bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. ¹³ There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.

⁵⁰ Nor do you understand that ^(A)it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.”

⁴ Then the officials said to the king, ^(A)“Let this man be put to death, ^(B)for he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking ^(C)the welfare of this people, but their harm.”

¹⁵ And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him ^(A)and imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.

^16 (B)When Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells and remained there many days,

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.”

¹⁷ When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, ^(A)“Is it you, you ^(B)troubler of Israel?”

²³ Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, ^(A)“God do so to me and more also if this word does not cost Adonijah his life!
