Elisha and the Shunammite Woman

⁸ One day Elisha went on to ^(A)Shunem, where a ^(B)wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food.

¹⁸ Their territory included Jezreel, Chesulloth, ^(A)Shunem,

²⁹ but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and ^(A)the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them.

³ He possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 female donkeys, and very many servants, so that this man was the greatest of all ^(A)the people of the east.

¹¹ One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there. ¹² And he said to ^(A)Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite.” When he had called her, she stood before him.

³ But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

³ So they sought for a beautiful young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the ^(A)Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

³² Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old. ^(A)He had provided the king with food while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he was a very wealthy man.

²⁰ And the old man said, ^(A)“Peace be to you; I will care for all your wants. ^(B)Only, do not spend the night in the square.”
