Jehoiachin Released from Prison^(A)

^27 (B)Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that ^[a]Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, ^(C)released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison.

^31 (B)Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, that ^[a]Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, ^(C)lifted^[b] up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him out of prison. ³² And he spoke kindly to him and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon. ³³ So ^[c]Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, ^(D)and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life. ³⁴ And as for his provisions, there was a regular ration given him by the king of Babylon, a portion for each day until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

²⁰ Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s ^(A)birthday, that he ^(B)made a feast for all his servants; and he ^(C)lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

^12 (A)Then Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers went out to the king of Babylon; and the king of Babylon, ^(B)in the eighth year of his reign, took him prisoner.

¹³ Now within three days Pharaoh will ^(A)lift up your head and restore you to your ^[a]place, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler.

The Lord Considers the Heart

¹⁵ And ^(A)he carried Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. The king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.

⁵ “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘Like these good figs, so will I ^[a]acknowledge those who are carried away captive from Judah, whom I have sent out of this place for their own good, into the land of the Chaldeans. ⁶ For I will set My eyes on them for good, and ^(A)I will bring them back to this land; ^(B)I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up.
