Jehoiachin Released^(A)

²⁷ In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin^(B) king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month.

Jehoiachin Released^(A)

³¹ In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin^(B) king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, on the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah and freed him from prison. ³² He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. ³³ So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table.^{(C) 34} Day by day the king of Babylon gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance^(D) as long as he lived, till the day of his death.

²⁰ Now the third day^(A) was Pharaoh’s birthday,^(B) and he gave a feast for all his officials.^(C) He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker^(D) in the presence of his officials:

¹² Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants, his nobles and his officials all surrendered^(A) to him.

In the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin prisoner.

¹³ Within three days^(A) Pharaoh will lift up your head^(B) and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.^(C)

¹⁵ Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin^(A) captive to Babylon. He also took from Jerusalem to Babylon the king’s mother,^(B) his wives, his officials and the prominent people^(C) of the land.

⁵ “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent^(A) away from this place to the land of the Babylonians.^{[a] 6} My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back^(B) to this land. I will build^(C) them up and not tear them down; I will plant^(D) them and not uproot them.
