¹⁵ Moreover, the altar at Bethel, the high place erected ^(A)by Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^(B)who made Israel to sin, ^(C)that altar with the high place he pulled down and burned,^[a] reducing it to dust. He also burned the Asherah.

⁶ And he brought out ^(A)the Asherah from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, ^(B)and burned it at the brook Kidron ^(C)and beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves ^(D)of the common people.

¹⁶ And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and made Israel to sin.”

³¹ But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. ^(A)He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin.

²² And I will make your house like ^(A)the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like ^(B)the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the anger to which you have provoked me, and because you ^(C)have made Israel to sin.

³⁰ It was for the sins of Jeroboam that he sinned and ^(A)that he made Israel to sin, and because of the anger to which he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel.

²⁸ So the king took counsel and ^(A)made two calves of gold. And he said to the people, “You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. ^(B)Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.” ²⁹ And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. ³⁰ Then ^(C)this thing became a sin, for the people went as far as Dan to be before one.^{[a] 31} He also made ^(D)temples on high places and ^(E)appointed priests from among all the people, who were not of the Levites. ³² And Jeroboam appointed a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like ^(F)the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he made. And he placed in Bethel ^(G)the priests of the high places that he had made. ³³ He went up to the altar that he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month that he had devised from his own heart. And he instituted a feast for the people of Israel and went up to the altar ^(H)to make offerings.

A Man of God Confronts Jeroboam

13 And behold, ^(I)a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the Lord to Bethel. Jeroboam was standing by the altar ^(J)to make offerings.
