⁹ And Shaphan the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord.”

¹¹ And before them stood ^(A)seventy men of ^(B)the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of ^(C)Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and ^(D)the smoke of the cloud of incense went up.

^2 (A)Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men with him rose up and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and killed him, ^(B)whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor in the land.

¹¹ Likewise, when all the Judeans who were in ^(A)Moab and among ^(B)the Ammonites and in ^(C)Edom and in other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, as governor over them,

¹⁴ sent and took Jeremiah from ^(A)the court of the guard. They entrusted him to ^(B)Gedaliah the son of ^(C)Ahikam, son of ^(D)Shaphan, that he should take him home. So ^(E)he lived among the people.

¹⁰ Then, in the hearing of all the people, Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the scroll, in the house of the Lord, in ^(A)the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the secretary, which was in the upper court, at the entry of the New Gate of the Lord's house.

¹¹ When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, son of ^(B)Shaphan, heard all the words of the Lord from the scroll, ¹² he went down to the king's house, into the secretary's chamber, and ^(C)all the officials were sitting there: ^(D)Elishama the secretary, ^(E)Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, ^(F)Elnathan ^(G)the son of Achbor, ^(H)Gemariah the son of ^(I)Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the officials.

³ The letter was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of ^(A)Shaphan and Gemariah the son of ^(B)Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. It said:

²⁴ But the hand of ^(A)Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.

Gedaliah Made Governor of Judah

²² And over the people who remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, he appointed ^(A)Gedaliah the son of ^(B)Ahikam, son of Shaphan, governor.
