⁴ “Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which has been ^(A)brought into the house of the Lord, which ^(B)the doorkeepers have gathered from the people.

⁴ And Jehoash said to the priests, ^(A)“All the money of the dedicated gifts that are brought into the house of the Lord—each man’s ^(B)census^[a] money, each man’s ^(C)assessment money—and all the money that ^[b]a man ^(D)purposes in his heart to bring into the house of the Lord,

The Widow’s Two Mites^(A)

^41 (B)Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money ^(C)into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. ⁴² Then one poor widow came and threw in two ^[a]mites, which make a ^[b]quadrans.

¹⁹ Moreover the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren who kept the gates, were one hundred and seventy-two.

⁹ When they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered ^(A)the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites who kept the doors had gathered from the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the ^(B)remnant of Israel, from all Judah and Benjamin, and which they had brought back to Jerusalem. ¹⁰ Then they put it in the hand of the foremen who had the oversight of the house of the Lord; and they gave it to the workmen who worked in the house of the Lord, to repair and restore the house. ¹¹ They gave it to the craftsmen and builders to buy hewn stone and timber for beams, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed. ¹² And the men did the work faithfully. Their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to supervise. Others of the Levites, all of whom were skillful with instruments of music, ¹³ were ^(C)over the burden bearers and were overseers of all who did work in any kind of service. ^(D)And some of the Levites were scribes, officers, and gatekeepers.

¹⁴ Now when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest ^(E)found the Book of the Law of the Lord given by Moses. ¹⁵ Then Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the ^(F)book to Shaphan. ¹⁶ So Shaphan carried the book to the king, bringing the king word, saying, “All that was committed to your servants they are doing. ¹⁷ And they have ^[a]gathered the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen.” ¹⁸ Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.

⁸ Then at the king’s command ^(A)they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of the Lord. ⁹ And they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring to the Lord ^(B)the collection that Moses the servant of God had imposed on Israel in the wilderness. ¹⁰ Then all the leaders and all the people rejoiced, brought their contributions, and put them into the chest until all had given. ¹¹ So it was, at that time, when the chest was brought to the king’s official by the hand of the Levites, and ^(C)when they saw that there was much money, that the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it and returned it to its place. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

¹² The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the house of the Lord; and they hired masons and carpenters to ^(D)repair the house of the Lord, and also those who worked in iron and bronze to restore the house of the Lord.

¹⁴ And, according to the ^[a]order of David his father, he appointed the ^(A)divisions of the priests for their service, ^(B)the Levites for their duties (to praise and serve before the priests) as the duty of each day required, and the ^(C)gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate; for so David the man of God had commanded.

¹³ And they ^(A)cast lots for each gate, the small as well as the great, according to their father’s house. ¹⁴ The lot for the East Gate fell to ^[a]Shelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, a wise counselor, and his lot came out for the North Gate; ¹⁵ to Obed-Edom the South Gate, and to his sons the ^[b]storehouse. ¹⁶ To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came out for the West Gate, with the Shallecheth Gate on the ^(B)ascending highway—watchman opposite watchman. ¹⁷ On the east were six Levites, on the north four each day, on the south four each day, and for the ^[c]storehouse two by two. ¹⁸ As for the ^[d]Parbar on the west, there were four on the highway and two at the Parbar. ¹⁹ These were the divisions of the gatekeepers among the sons of Korah and among the sons of Merari.
