³ For he rebuilt the ^[a]high places ^(A)which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a ^[b]wooden image, ^(B)as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he ^(C)worshiped all ^[c]the host of heaven and served them.

^4 (A)He removed the ^[a]high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the ^[b]wooden image and broke in pieces the ^(B)bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it ^[c]Nehushtan.

¹⁶ So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, ^(A)made for themselves a molded image and two calves, ^(B)made a wooden image and worshiped all the ^(C)host of heaven, ^(D)and served Baal.

³¹ And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^(A)that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the ^(B)Sidonians; ^(C)and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. ³² Then he set up an altar for Baal in ^(D)the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. ^33 (E)And Ahab made a ^[a]wooden image. Ahab ^(F)did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

³ who has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, either ^(A)the sun or moon or any of the host of heaven, ^(B)which I have not commanded,

¹⁹ And take heed, lest you ^(A)lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, ^(B)all the host of heaven, you feel driven to ^(C)worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has ^[a]given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.

³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still ^(A)young, he began to ^(B)seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began ^(C)to purge Judah and Jerusalem ^(D)of the ^[a]high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images.
