²³ He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”

^16 (A)But they kept mocking the messengers of God, ^(B)despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, ^(C)until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

³⁶ Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even ^(A)chains and imprisonment.

²⁹ But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh ^(A)persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, ^(B)so also it is now.

⁴⁰ and saying, ^(A)“You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! ^(B)If you are ^(C)the Son of God, come down from the cross.” ⁴¹ So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, ^42 (D)“He saved others; ^(E)he cannot save himself. ^(F)He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. ^43 (G)He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

²⁹ and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they ^(A)mocked him, saying, “Hail, ^(B)King of the Jews!” ³⁰ And ^(C)they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and ^(D)led him away to crucify him.
