²⁶ Therefore their inhabitants had little power;
They were dismayed and confounded;
They were as the grass of the field
And the green herb,
As ^(A)the grass on the housetops
And grain blighted before it is grown.

^32 (A)The passages are blocked,
The reeds they have burned with fire,
And the men of war are terrified.

³⁰ The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting,
They have remained in their strongholds;
Their might has failed,
^(A)They became like women;
They have burned her dwelling places,
^(B)The bars of her gate are broken.

³⁶ A sword is ^(A)against the soothsayers, and they will be fools.
A sword is against her mighty men, and they will be dismayed.
³⁷ A sword is against their horses,
Against their chariots,
And against all ^(B)the mixed peoples who are in her midst;
And ^(C)they will become like women.
A sword is against her treasures, and they will be robbed.

⁶ Let them be as the ^(A)grass on the housetops,
Which withers before it grows up,
⁷ With which the reaper does not fill his hand,
Nor he who binds sheaves, his ^[a]arms.
⁸ Neither let those who pass by them say,
^(B)“The blessing of the Lord be upon you;
We bless you in the name of the Lord!”
