Isaiah Prophesies Sennacherib’s Fall^(A)(B)

²⁰ Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I have heard^(C) your prayer concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria.

²⁰ King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer^(A) to heaven about this. ²¹ And the Lord sent an angel,^(B) who annihilated all the fighting men and the commanders and officers in the camp of the Assyrian king. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he went into the temple of his god, some of his sons, his own flesh and blood, cut him down with the sword.^(C)

⁵ “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard^(A) your prayer and seen your tears;^(B) I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.

¹⁴ This is the confidence^(A) we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.^{(B) 15} And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know^(C) that we have what we asked of him.^(D)

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.

³ ‘Call^(A) to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable^(B) things you do not know.’

⁴ Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked.

The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering^(A) before God.^(B)

⁴² I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here,^(A) that they may believe that you sent me.”^(B)
