²³ until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had foretold through all his servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their own land to Assyria until this day.

⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria captured Samaria; he carried the Israelites away to Assyria. He placed them in Halah, on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.^(A)

¹³ Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the law that I commanded your ancestors and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”^(A)

²⁷ therefore I will take you into exile beyond Damascus, says the Lord, whose name is the God of hosts.^(A)

¹¹ The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria and settled them in Halah, on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,^{(A) 12} because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant—all that Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded; they neither listened nor obeyed.

²⁰ The Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel; he punished them and gave them into the hand of plunderers, until he had banished them from his presence.^(A)

¹⁸ Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight; none was left but the tribe of Judah alone.^(A)

¹⁶ He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and which he caused Israel to commit.”^(A)

⁴ And the Lord said to him, “Name him Jezreel,^[a] for in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.^{(A) 5} On that day I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel.”^(B)

⁶ She conceived again and bore a daughter. Then the Lord said to him, “Name her Lo-ruhamah,^[b] for I will no longer have pity on the house of Israel or forgive them.^{(C) 7} But I will have pity on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God; I will not save them by bow or by sword or by war or by horses or by horsemen.”^(D)

⁸ When she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and bore a son. ⁹ Then the Lord said, “Name him Lo-ammi,^[c] for you are not my people, and I am not your God.”^[d]
