^21 (A)When he had torn Israel from the house of David, ^(B)they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Jeroboam drove Israel from following the Lord ^(C)and made them commit great sin.

¹¹ Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, ^(A)I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.

³¹ And he said to Jeroboam, “Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, ^(A)I am about to tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon and will give you ten tribes

¹⁶ And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and made Israel to sin.”

²⁸ So the king took counsel and ^(A)made two calves of gold. And he said to the people, “You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. ^(B)Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.” ²⁹ And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. ³⁰ Then ^(C)this thing became a sin, for the people went as far as Dan to be before one.^[a]

¹¹ Jesus answered him, ^(A)“You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore ^(B)he who delivered me over to you ^(C)has the greater sin.”

^17 (A)The Lord will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that ^(B)Ephraim departed from Judah—the king of Assyria!”

¹⁵ and he appointed his own ^(A)priests for the high places and for the goat idols and for ^(B)the calves that he had made.

¹¹ He made the fortresses strong, and put commanders in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.
