²⁰ And Menahem ^(A)exacted^[a] the money from Israel, from all the very wealthy, from each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and did not stay there in the land.

³ Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the ^[a]people of the East.

Jehoiakim Reigns in Judah^(A)

³⁵ So Jehoiakim gave ^(B)the silver and gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give money according to the command of Pharaoh; he exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land, from every one according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Necho.

¹⁴ Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; turn away from me; whatever you impose on me I will pay.” And the king of Assyria assessed Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. ¹⁵ So Hezekiah ^(A)gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house. ¹⁶ At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave ^[a]it to the king of Assyria.

Sennacherib Boasts Against the Lord^(B)

¹⁷ Then the king of Assyria sent the ^[b]Tartan, the ^[c]Rabsaris, and the ^[d]Rabshakeh from Lachish, with a great army against Jerusalem, to King Hezekiah. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they went and stood by the ^(C)aqueduct from the upper pool, ^(D)which was on the highway to the Fuller’s Field.

³² Now Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old. And ^(A)he had provided the king with supplies while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he was a very rich man.
