²⁹ But Jehu did not turn aside from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat that he caused Israel to commit: the golden calves that were in Bethel and in Dan.^(A)

²⁸ So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. He said to the people,^[a] “You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Here are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”^{(A) 29} He set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.^{(B) 30} And this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one at Bethel and before the other as far as Dan.^[b](C)

¹⁶ He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and which he caused Israel to commit.”^(A)

³³ Even after this event Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way but made priests for the high places again from among all the people; any who wanted to be priests he consecrated for the high places.^{(A) 34} This matter became sin to the house of Jeroboam, so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth.^(B)

¹² for until certain people came from James, he used to eat with the gentiles. But after they came, he drew back and kept himself separate for fear of the circumcision faction.^{(A) 13} And the other Jews joined him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

⁹ But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.^{(A) 10} For if others see you, who possess knowledge, eating in the temple of an idol, might they not, since their conscience is weak, be encouraged to the point of eating food sacrificed to idols? ¹¹ So by your knowledge the weak brother or sister for whom Christ died is destroyed.^{(B) 12} But when you thus sin against brothers and sisters and wound their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. ¹³ Therefore, if food is a cause of their falling, I will never again eat meat, so that I may not cause one of them to fall.^(C)

²⁴ She went out and said to her mother, “What should I ask for?” She replied, “The head of John the baptizer.” ²⁵ Immediately she rushed back to the king and requested, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” ²⁶ The king was deeply grieved, yet out of regard for his oaths and for the guests, he did not want to refuse her.
