²⁷ Then they broke down the sacred pillar of Baal, and tore down the ^[a]temple of Baal and ^(A)made it a refuse dump to this day.

^29 (A)Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the ^(B)God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be ^(C)cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; ^(D)because there is no other God who can deliver like this.”

⁵ The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “My ^[a]decision is firm: if you do not make known the dream to me, and its interpretation, you shall be ^(A)cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made an ash heap.

³² Then he set up an altar for Baal in ^(A)the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still ^(A)young, he began to ^(B)seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began ^(C)to purge Judah and Jerusalem ^(D)of the ^[a]high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images. ^4 (E)They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars which were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images he broke in pieces, and made dust of them ^(F)and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them. ⁵ He also ^(G)burned the bones of the priests on their ^(H)altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem. ⁶ And so he did in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, as far as Naphtali and all around, with ^[b]axes. ⁷ When he had broken down the altars and the wooden images, had ^(I)beaten the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

⁷ Then he tore down the ritual ^[a]booths ^(A)of the ^[b]perverted persons that were in the house of the Lord, ^(B)where the ^(C)women wove hangings for the wooden image. ⁸ And he brought all the priests from the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from ^(D)Geba to Beersheba; also he broke down the high places at the gates which were at the entrance of the Gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were to the left of the city gate. ^9 (E)Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, ^(F)but they ate unleavened bread among their brethren.

¹⁰ And he defiled ^(G)Topheth, which is in ^(H)the Valley of the ^[c]Son of Hinnom, ^(I)that no man might make his son or his daughter ^(J)pass through the fire to Molech. ¹¹ Then he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had ^[d]dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech, the officer who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. ¹² The altars that were ^(K)on the roof, the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which ^(L)Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, the king broke down and pulverized there, and threw their dust into the Brook Kidron. ¹³ Then the king defiled the ^[e]high places that were east of Jerusalem, which were on the ^[f]south of ^[g]the Mount of Corruption, which ^(M)Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the people of Ammon. ¹⁴ And he ^(N)broke in pieces the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images, and filled their places with the bones of men.

^4 (A)He removed the ^[a]high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the ^[b]wooden image and broke in pieces the ^(B)bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it ^[c]Nehushtan.

²⁵ You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not ^(A)covet^[a] the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.
