²⁵ As soon as Jehu had finished making the burnt offering, he ordered the guards and officers: “Go in and kill^(A) them; let no one escape.”^(B) So they cut them down with the sword. The guards and officers threw the bodies out and then entered the inner shrine of the temple of Baal.

⁷ And I heard the altar^(C) respond:

²¹ I will gather you and I will blow^(A) on you with my fiery wrath, and you will be melted inside her.^{(B) 22} As silver is melted^(C) in a furnace, so you will be melted inside her, and you will know that I the Lord have poured out my wrath^(D) on you.’”^(E)

⁴⁰ Then Elijah commanded them, “Seize the prophets of Baal. Don’t let anyone get away!” They seized them, and Elijah had them brought down to the Kishon Valley^(A) and slaughtered^(B) there.

⁵ As I listened, he said to the others, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity^(A) or compassion.^{(B) 6} Slaughter^(C) the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children,^(D) but do not touch anyone who has the mark.^(E) Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the old men^(F) who were in front of the temple.^(G)

⁷ Then he said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain.^(H) Go!” So they went out and began killing throughout the city.

⁶ If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices^(A) you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods”^(B) (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, ⁷ gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), ⁸ do not yield^(C) to them or listen to them. Show them no pity.^(D) Do not spare them or shield them. ⁹ You must certainly put them to death.^(E) Your hand^(F) must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. ¹⁰ Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away^(G) from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. ¹¹ Then all Israel will hear and be afraid,^(H) and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.

²⁷ Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.’”^(A)
