Servants of Baal Killed

¹⁸ Then Jehu brought all the people together and said to them, “Ahab served^(A) Baal a little; Jehu will serve him much.

³¹ He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married^(A) Jezebel daughter^(B) of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal^(C) and worship him. ³² He set up an altar^(D) for Baal in the temple^(E) of Baal that he built in Samaria.

⁸ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

⁸ Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”?^(A) Their condemnation is just!

² He did evil^(A) in the eyes of the Lord, but not as his father^(B) and mother had done. He got rid of the sacred stone^(C) of Baal that his father had made.

⁴⁰ Then Elijah commanded them, “Seize the prophets of Baal. Don’t let anyone get away!” They seized them, and Elijah had them brought down to the Kishon Valley^(A) and slaughtered^(B) there.

²² Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left,^(A) but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets.^(B)

¹⁹ Now summon^(A) the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel.^(B) And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”^(C)
