¹⁶ Jehu said, “Come with me and see my zeal^(A) for the Lord.” Then he had him ride along in his chariot.

¹⁰ He replied, “I have been very zealous^(A) for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant,^(B) torn down your altars,^(C) and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left,^(D) and now they are trying to kill me too.”

³¹ Yet Jehu was not careful^(A) to keep the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins^(B) of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit.

² For I can testify about them that they are zealous^(A) for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.

Prayer^(A)

⁵ “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing^(B) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

² “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

³¹ My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before^(A) you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy^(B) for unjust gain.^(C)

⁷ You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge^(A) the blood of my servants^(B) the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel.^{(C) 8} The whole house^(D) of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male^(E) in Israel—slave or free.^{[a] 9} I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam^(F) son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha^(G) son of Ahijah.
