¹⁴ And he said, “Take them alive!” So they took them alive, and ^(A)killed them at the well of ^[a]Beth Eked, forty-two men; and he left none of them.

Athaliah Reigns in Judah^(A)

^10 (B)Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah.

⁸ And it happened, when Jehu was ^(A)executing judgment on the house of Ahab, and ^(B)found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers who served Ahaziah, that he killed them.

11 When ^(B)Athaliah ^(C)the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was ^(D)dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs.

¹⁰ Know now that nothing shall ^(A)fall to the earth of the word of the Lord which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab; for the Lord has done what He spoke ^(B)by His servant Elijah.” ¹¹ So Jehu killed all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men and his close acquaintances and his priests, until he left him none remaining.

⁶ Then he wrote a second letter to them, saying:

Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were rearing them.

¹⁸ And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for ^(A)the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

¹⁸ So he said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive; and if they have come out for war, take them alive.”
