⁹ Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty men with his fifty. He went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, ^(A)“O man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’”

³⁶ Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even ^(A)chains and imprisonment.

¹³ And he said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send and seize him.” It was told him, “Behold, he is in ^(A)Dothan.” ¹⁴ So he sent there horses and chariots and a great army, and they came by night and surrounded the city.

¹¹ But they were filled with ^(A)fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The Twelve Apostles

¹² In these days ^(B)he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

³² Let ^(A)the Christ, ^(B)the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may ^(C)see and believe.” ^(D)Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.

²⁹ And ^(A)those who passed by derided him, ^(B)wagging their heads and saying, ^(C)“Aha! ^(D)You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,

⁴¹ So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, ^42 (A)“He saved others; ^(B)he cannot save himself. ^(C)He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. ^43 (D)He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

²⁹ and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they ^(A)mocked him, saying, “Hail, ^(B)King of the Jews!”

⁶⁸ saying, “Prophesy to us, you ^(A)Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

³ For ^(A)Herod had seized John and bound him and ^(B)put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,^[a]
