¹¹ Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men.

And he answered and said to him: “Man of God, thus has the king said, ‘Come down quickly!’ ”

¹⁶ saying, ^(A)“What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a ^[a]notable miracle has been done through them is ^(B)evident^[b] to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.”

⁵ They answered Him, ^(A)“Jesus ^[a]of Nazareth.”

Jesus said to them, “I am He.” And Judas, who ^(B)betrayed Him, also stood with them. ⁶ Now when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

⁷ Then He asked them again, “Whom are you seeking?”

And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

⁸ Jesus answered, “I have told you that I am He. Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their way,” ⁹ that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, ^(C)“Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none.”

^10 (D)Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

¹¹ So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink ^(E)the cup which My Father has given Me?”

¹² Then the detachment of troops and the captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him.

Jesus Mocked and Beaten^(A)

^63 (B)Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and ^(C)beat Him. ^64 [a]And having blindfolded Him, they ^(D)struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?”

¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
