¹⁰ But Elijah answered the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, ^(A)let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell ^(A)fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”^[a]

²⁵ He answered and said, “But I see four men unbound, ^(A)walking in the midst of the fire, and they ^(B)are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like ^(C)a son of the gods.”

²⁹ for our ^(A)God is a consuming fire.

²² Because the king's order was ^(A)urgent and the furnace overheated, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up ^(B)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

³⁶ And at the time of ^(A)the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord, ^(B)God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that ^(C)you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that ^(D)I have done all these things at your word. ³⁷ Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” ^38 (E)Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

⁵ And if anyone would harm them, ^(A)fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, ^(B)this is how he is doomed to be killed.

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, ^(A)“The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

²⁸ And Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that the Lord has sent me to do all these works, and that it has not been ^(A)of my own accord. ²⁹ If these men die as all men die, or if they are visited by the fate of all mankind, ^(B)then the Lord has not sent me. ³⁰ But if the Lord creates something new, and ^(C)the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they ^(D)go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the Lord.”

¹⁹ And after Herod searched for him and did not find him, he examined the sentries and ^(A)ordered that they should be put to death. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and spent time there.
