Ang Paghahari ni Ahaz sa Juda(A)
28 Si Ahaz ay 20 taong gulang nang maging hari. Sa Jerusalem siya tumira, at naghari siya roon sa loob ng 16 na taon. Gumawa siya ng masama sa paningin ng Panginoon, hindi katulad ng ginawa ng kanyang ninuno na si David. 2 Sumunod siya sa pamumuhay ng mga hari ng Israel, at gumawa ng metal na mga imahen ni Baal. 3 Nagsunog siya ng mga handog sa Lambak ng Ben Hinom, at inihandog niya mismo sa apoy ang kanyang mga anak na lalaki. Sinunod niya ang kasuklam-suklam na mga kaugalian ng mga bansang pinalayas ng Panginoon sa pamamagitan ng mga Israelita. 4 Nag-alay siya ng mga handog at nagsunog ng mga insenso sa mga sambahan sa matataas na lugar,[a] sa ibabaw ng bundok at sa ilalim ng bawat malalagong punongkahoy.
5 Kaya ibinigay siya ng Panginoon na kanyang Dios sa hari ng Aram. Tinalo siya ng mga Arameo at marami sa kanyang mamamayan ang binihag sa Damascus. Ibinigay din siya sa hari ng Israel, na pumatay ng marami sa kanyang mamamayan. 6 Sa isang araw lang 120,000 sundalo ng Juda ang pinatay ni Haring Peka ng Israel, na anak ni Remalia. Pero labis ang ginawa ninyo; pinagpapatay nʼyo sila nang walang awa, at nalaman ito ng Panginoon doon sa langit. 10 At ngayon, gusto pa ninyong alipinin ang mga lalaki at mga babae na mula sa Jerusalem at sa iba pang lungsod ng Juda. Hindi baʼt may kasalanan din kayo sa Panginoon na inyong Dios? 11 Makinig kayo sa akin! Galit na galit ang Panginoon sa inyo. Kaya pabalikin nʼyo ang inyong mga kadugo na inyong binihag.”
12 Ganito rin ang sinabi ng ibang mga pinuno ng Israel sa mga sundalo na dumating galing sa labanan. Ang mga pinuno ay sina Azaria na anak ni Jehohanan, Berekia na anak ni Meshilemot, Jehizkia na anak ni Shalum, at Amasa na anak ni Hadlai. 13 Ito ang sinabi nila sa mga sundalo: “Huwag nʼyong dalhin dito ang mga bihag na iyan, dahil pananagutan natin ito sa Panginoon. Dadagdagan nʼyo pa ba ang kasalanan natin? Marami na tayong kasalanan, at galit na galit na ang Panginoon sa Israel.”
14 Kaya pinakawalan ng mga sundalo ang mga bihag at isinauli ang kanilang ari-arian sa harapan ng mga pinuno at mga mamamayan. 15 Pagkatapos, lumapit sa mga bihag ang apat na pinuno na nabanggit, at tinulungan ang mga bihag. Naagaw nila ang Bet Shemesh, Ayalon, Gederot, Soco, Timnah at Gimzo, pati ang mga baryo sa paligid nito; at doon na sila nanirahan. 19 Ibinaba ng Panginoon ang Juda dahil hinikayat ni Haring Ahaz ang mga mamamayan sa paggawa ng kasamaan, at hindi siya sumunod sa Panginoon. 20 Kaya pagdating ni Haring Tiglat Pileser ng Asiria, ginipit niya si Ahaz sa halip na tulungan. 21 Nanguha si Ahaz ng mga ari-arian sa templo ng Panginoon, sa palasyo, at sa mga bahay ng mga opisyal, at ibinigay niya ito sa hari ng Asiria. Pero hindi ito nakatulong kay Ahaz.
22 Sa panahon ng mga kahirapan ni Haring Ahaz, lalo pa siyang naging suwail sa Panginoon. 23 Nag-alay siya ng mga handog sa mga dios ng mga taga-Damascus na tumalo sa kanya. Sapagkat sinabi niya, “Ang mga hari ng Aram ay tinulungan ng kanilang mga dios. 24 Kinuha ni Ahaz ang mga kagamitan sa templo ng Dios at ipinadurog ito. Ipinasara niya ang pintuan ng templo, at nagpatayo siya ng mga altar sa bawat kanto ng Jerusalem. 25 Nagpatayo rin siya ng mga sambahan sa matataas na lugar sa lahat ng bayan sa Juda, para makapaghandog sa ibang mga dios. At labis itong nakapagpagalit sa Panginoon, ang Dios ng kanyang mga ninuno.

28 Si Achaz ay (A)may dalawangpung taon nang siya'y magpasimulang maghari; at siya'y nagharing labing anim na taon sa Jerusalem: at hindi siya gumawa ng matuwid sa harap ng mga mata ng Panginoon, na gaya ni David na kaniyang magulang.
2 Kundi siya'y lumakad ng mga lakad ng mga hari sa Israel, at iginawa rin naman ng mga (B)larawang binubo ang mga (C)Baal.
3 (D)Bukod dito'y nagsunog siya ng kamangyan sa (E)libis ng anak ni Hinnom, at (F)sinunog ang kaniyang mga anak sa apoy, ayon sa mga karumaldumal ng mga bansa, na mga pinalayas ng Panginoon sa harap ng mga anak ni Israel.
4 At siya'y naghain at nagsunog ng kamangyan sa mga mataas na dako, at sa mga burol, at sa ilalim ng bawa't punong kahoy na sariwa.

11 Ngayo'y dinggin nga ninyo ako, at pabalikin ninyo ang mga bihag, na inyong kinuhang bihag sa inyong mga kapatid: sapagka't ang malaking pagiinit ng Panginoon ay dumating sa inyo.
12 Nang magkagayo'y ilan sa mga pangulo sa mga anak ni Ephraim, si Azarias na anak ni Johanan, si Berachias na anak ni Mesillemoth at si Ezechias na anak ni Sallum, at si Amasa na anak ni Hadlai, ay nagsitayo laban sa kanila na nanggaling sa pakikipagdigma,
13 At sinabi sa kanila, Huwag kayong magsisipagdala ng mga bihag dito: sapagka't inyong inaakala na magdala sa atin ng pagsalangsang laban sa Panginoon, upang idagdag sa ating mga kasalanan at sa ating mga pagsalangsang: sapagka't ang ating pagsalangsang ay malaki, at may malaking pagiinit laban sa Israel.
14 Sa gayo'y iniwan ng mga lalaking may sakbat ang mga bihag at ang mga samsam sa harap ng mga prinsipe at ng buong kapisanan.
15 At ang mga lalaking (L)nasaysay sa pangalan ay nagsitindig, at kinuha ang mga bihag, at sa samsam ay binihisan ang lahat na hubad sa kanila, at dinamtan at sinapatusan, (M)at mga pinakain at pinainom, at mga pinahiran ng langis, at dinala ang lahat na mahina sa kanila na nakasakay sa mga asno, at mga dinala sa Jerico, na (N)bayan ng mga puno ng palma, sa kanilang mga kapatid: saka nagsibalik sila sa Samaria.

19 Sapagka't ibinaba ng Panginoon ang Juda dahil kay Achaz na hari sa (S)Israel; sapagka't (T)hinubaran ang Juda, at sumalangsang na mainam laban sa Panginoon.
20 At si (U)Tilgath-pilneser na hari sa Asiria ay naparoon sa kaniya, at ginipit siya, nguni't hindi siya pinalakas.
21 (V)Sapagka't si Achas ay kumuha ng bahagi sa bahay ng Panginoon, at sa bahay ng hari at sa mga prinsipe, at ibinigay sa hari sa Asiria: nguni't hindi siya tinulungan.

24 At pinisan ni Achaz ang mga sisidlan ng bahay ng Dios, at (Y)pinagputolputol ang mga sisidlan ng bahay ng Dios, at isinara ang mga pinto ng bahay ng Panginoon; (Z)at siya'y gumawa sa kaniya ng mga dambana sa bawa't sulok ng Jerusalem.
25 At sa bawa't iba't ibang bayan ng Juda ay gumawa siya ng mga mataas na dako upang pagsunugan ng kamangyan sa mga ibang dios, at minungkahi sa galit ang Panginoon, ang Dios ng kaniyang mga magulang.
26 (AA)Ang iba nga sa kaniyang mga gawa, at ang lahat niyang mga lakad, na una at huli, narito, nangasusulat sa aklat ng mga hari sa Juda at Israel.

28 Ahaz was of twenty years, when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; he did not rightfulness in the sight of the Lord, as David, his father, did (he did not go rightfully before the Lord, like his forefather David did);
2 but he went in the ways of the kings of Israel. Furthermore and he melted out images to Baalim (And furthermore he cast metal images of the Baalim).
3 He it is that burnt incense in the valley of Ben-hinnon, and purged his sons by fire (It was he who burned incense in the Valley of Ben-hinnon, and who burned his sons in the fire), (as) by the custom of heathen men, whom the Lord (had) killed in the coming of the sons of Israel from Egypt/in the coming of the sons of Israel to the land of promise.
4 Also he made sacrifice, and burnt incense in high places, and in hills, and under each tree full of boughs. (And he made sacrifices, and burned incense at the hill shrines, and on the hills, and under each tree full of boughs.)
5 And the Lord his God betook him in(to) the hand of the king of Syria, which smote Ahaz, and took a great prey of his empire, and brought into Damascus. Also Ahaz was betaken to the hands of the king of Israel, and he was smitten with a great wound. (And the Lord his God delivered him into the hands of the king of Syria, who struck Ahaz, and took away many captives from his empire, and brought them to Damascus. And then Ahaz was delivered into the hands of the king of Israel, who struck down his army with a great slaughter.)
6 And Pekah, the son of Remaliah, killed of Judah sixscore thousand in one day, all the men warriors; for they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers. (And Pekah, the son of Remaliah, killed one hundred and twenty thousand of the men of Judah on one day, all very strong men of war; because they had abandoned the Lord God of their fathers.)
7 In the same time Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah, the son of Jotham, the king; and he killed Azrikam, the duke of his house, and Elkanah, the second person from the king. (At the same time Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah, the son of Jotham, the king; and he also killed Azrikam, the leader of his household, and Elkanah, the second person from the king.)
8 And the sons of Israel took of their brethren two hundred thousand of women and of children and of damsels, and prey without number, and bare it into Samaria. (And the Israelites captured two hundred thousand of their kinsmen’s women and children and young women, and also took prey without number, and brought them and the spoils back to Samaria.)
9 In that tempest, or (time of) vengeance, a prophet of the Lord, Oded by name, was there, which went out against the host of Israel coming into Samaria, and he said to them, Lo! the Lord God of your fathers was wroth against Judah, and he hath betaken them in your hands; and ye have slain them cruelly, so that your cruelty stretcheth forth into heaven. (And in that tempest, or at that time of vengeance, a prophet of the Lord named Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army of Israel coming back to Samaria, and he said to them, Lo! the Lord God of your fathers was angry against Judah, and so he delivered them into your hands; but ye have cruelly killed them, so that your cruelty stretcheth forth unto heaven.)
10 Furthermore and ye will (to) make subject to you the sons of Judah and of Jerusalem into servants and handmaids; which thing is not needful to be done; certainly ye have sinned in this thing to the Lord your God. (And furthermore ye desire to make the sons of Judah and of Jerusalem subject to you, to make them be your servants and your sevantesses; but this should not be done, for ye have also sinned against the Lord your God.)
11 But hear ye my counsel, and lead again the prisoners, which ye have brought thence of your brethren (whom ye have brought here from your kinsmen); for (the) great vengeance of the Lord nigheth to you.
12 Therefore men of the princes of the sons of Ephraim, Azariah, the son of Johanan, Berechiah, the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah, the son of Shallum, and Amasa, the son of Hadlai, stood against them that came from the battle; (And so some leaders of the Ephraimites, Azariah, the son of Johanan, Berechiah, the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah, the son of Shallum, and Amasa, the son of Hadlai, stood against them who came from the battle;)
13 and said to them, Ye shall not bring in hither the prisoners, lest we do (more) sin against the Lord; why will ye lay to on your sins, and heap (more on) your old trespasses? Certainly this is great sin; the wrath of the strong vengeance of the Lord nigheth on Israel. (and said to them, Ye shall not bring in the prisoners here, lest we do more sin against the Lord; why add ye more onto our sins, and heap up more onto our old trespasses? For our sin is great; and the anger of the strong vengeance of the Lord cometh upon Israel.)
14 And the men warriors left the prey, and all things which they had taken, before the princes and all the multitude. (And so the men of war left the prisoners, and all the things which they had taken, in front of the leaders and all the multitude.)
15 And the men stood there, which we remembered before, and they took the prisoners, and they clothed of the spoils all that were naked; and when they had clothed them, and shod them, and refreshed them with meat, and with drink, and anointed them for (their) travail, and gave cure, either medicine, to them; which ever of them were feeble, and might not go, they putted on horses, and they brought them to Jericho, the city of palms, to their brethren; and they turned again into Samaria. (And the men stood there, whom we named before, and they took the prisoners, and they clothed all who were naked with the spoils; and when they had clothed them, and shod them, and refreshed them with food, and with drink, and anointed them for their travail, and gave a cure, or medicine, to them; whomever of them were feeble, or were weak, and could not walk, they put on horses, and they brought them to Jericho, the City of Palms, back to their kinsmen; and then they returned to Samaria.)
16 In that time (At that time), king Ahaz sent to the king of Assyrians, and asked help of him.
17 And Idumeans came (For the Edomites had returned), and killed many men of Judah, and took great prey.
18 Also [the] Philistines were spread abroad by (the) cities of the fields, and at the south of Judah; and they took Bethshemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho, and Timnah, and Gimzo, with their villages; and they dwelled in those (and they lived there).
19 For the Lord made low Judah for Ahaz, the king of Judah[a]; for he had made him naked of help, and (he had) despised the Lord. (For the Lord had humbled Judah because of Ahaz, the king of Judah; for he had made Judah naked, or void, of any help, and he had defied the Lord.)
20 And the Lord brought against him Tilgathpilneser, king of Assyrians, that tormented him (who tormented him), and wasted him, while no man against-stood (him).
21 Therefore Ahaz, after that he had spoiled the house of the Lord, and the house of the king, and (those) of the princes, gave gifts to the king of Assyrians, and nevertheless it profited nothing to him. (And so Ahaz, after that he had spoiled the House of the Lord, and the house of the king, and those of the leaders, gave gifts to the king of Assyria, but nevertheless it profited nothing to him.)
22 Furthermore also in the time of his anguish he increased despite against God; that king Ahaz, himself, (And furthermore in the time of his anguish he increased his defiance against God; for King Ahaz, himself,)
23 offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, his smiters, or destroyers, and he said, The gods of the kings of Syria help them, which gods I shall please by sacrifices, and they shall help me; when, on the contrary, they were (the cause of) falling to him, and to all Israel. (offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, his destroyers, and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, I shall please these gods, and then they shall also help me; when, on the contrary, they were the cause of his downfall, and that of all Israel.)
24 Therefore after that Ahaz had taken away, and broken all the vessels of the house of God, he closed the gates of God’s temple, and he made altars to himself in all the corners of Jerusalem (and he made altars for himself in all the corners of Jerusalem).
25 And in all the cities of Judah he builded altars to burn incense (to other gods), and he stirred the Lord God of his fathers to wrathfulness.
26 Soothly the residue of his words and of all his works, the former and the last, be written in the book of [the] kings of Judah and of Israel. (And the rest of the first and the last deeds of Ahaz, be written in The Book of the Kings of Judah and of Israel.)
27 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of Jerusalem; for they received not him into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel (for they would not lay him in the tombs of the kings of Israel); and Hezekiah, his son, reigned for him.

Ahaz of Judah
28 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he ruled in Jerusalem for sixteen years. He did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord as his father David had done. 2 Instead, he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made cast images for the Baals 3 and sent up sacrifices in smoke in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom. He burned his sons in the fire, in keeping with the disgusting practices of the nations whom the Lord had driven out before the people of Israel. 4 He also sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every leafy tree.
5 So the Lord his God gave him into the hand of the king of Aram. The Arameans defeated him and captured a great number of prisoners, who were taken to Damascus. Ahaz was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who dealt him a heavy blow.
6 In one day, Pekah son of Remaliah killed one hundred twenty thousand men in Judah, all of them strong warriors, because they had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. 7 Zikri, a strong warrior from Ephraim, killed the king’s son Ma’aseiah, as well as Azrikam chief officer of the palace, and Elkanah second in command to the king.
8 The men from Israel took two hundred thousand of their fellow Israelites captive, including wives, sons, and daughters. They also seized a large amount of plunder from them and took it to Samaria.
9 There was a prophet of the Lord there, whose name was Oded. He went out to meet the army that came to Samaria and said to them, “Look! Because the Lord, the God of your fathers, was angry against Judah, he gave them into your hand. You have killed them in a rage that reaches up to heaven. 10 Now you intend to subjugate the people of Judah and Jerusalem as male and female slaves for yourselves. Do you not have enough guilt of your own against the Lord your God? 11 Now hear me. Send back the captives whom you have taken from your brothers, because the fierce anger of the Lord is upon you.”
12 Some of the leaders of Ephraim, Azariah son of Johanan, Berekiah son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai, took a stand against those returning from the battle. 13 They said to them, “You must not bring the captives here, because it would make us guilty before the Lord. You are proposing to increase our sins and our guilt, because great guilt rests upon us and fierce anger burns against Israel.”
14 So the armed men left the captives and the plunder in front of the officials and the whole assembly. 15 The men who had been designated by name got up and took custody of the captives. From the spoils they provided clothing for all those who were naked. They clothed them and provided them with sandals, with food and drink, and with salve for their wounds. They transported all those who were weak on donkeys. They brought them to Jericho, the City of Palms, to their fellow Israelites. Then they returned to Samaria.
16 At that time King Ahaz sent a request for help to the kings of Assyria. 17 Once again the Edomites came and defeated Judah and carried away captives.
18 The Philistines also made raids on the cities in the Shephelah and the Negev of Judah. They captured Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soko with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and Gimzo with its villages, and they settled there.
19 The Lord brought Judah low, because Ahaz king of Israel[a] had led Judah to throw off all restraint. He had been very unfaithful to the Lord.
20 When Tiglath Pileser[b] king of Assyria came, he marched against Ahaz and oppressed him instead of strengthening him. 21 Ahaz took some things from the House of the Lord, from the palace of the king, and from the officials, and he gave them to the king of Assyria, but it did not help him.
22 In the time of his distress King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the Lord. That was the way he was. 23 He sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him. He said, “Because the gods of the kings of Aram helped them, I will sacrifice to them so that they may help me.” But they were his ruin and the ruin of all Israel.
24 Ahaz gathered the articles from the House of God and cut all these things from the House of God to pieces. He shut the doors of the House of the Lord and made altars for himself in every corner of Jerusalem. 25 In each and every city throughout Judah, he made high places to burn incense to other gods. He provoked the Lord, the God of his fathers, to anger.
26 As for the rest of his acts and all his ways, from first to last, you can find them written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
27 Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of Jerusalem. They did not bury him in the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah ruled as king in his place.
