Digmaan Laban sa Edom
20 Dumating ang panahon na nilusob ng mga Moabita, Ammonita at ilang Meunita si Jehoshafat. 2 Nabalitaan niya na isang malaking pangkat mula sa Edom ang sumasalakay sa ibayo ng lawa at nasa Hazazon-tamar, na tinatawag ding En-gedi. 3 Nabahala si Jehoshafat at humingi siya ng patnubay kay Yahweh. Iniutos niya na mag-ayuno ang lahat ng mamamayan ng Juda. 4 Nagtipun-tipon ang buong Juda upang humingi ng tulong kay Yahweh. Dumating sila buhat sa iba't ibang lunsod.
5 Tumayo si Jehoshafat sa harap ng mga taga-Juda at Jerusalem na nagtitipon sa bagong bulwagan ng Templo. 6 Nanalangin siya:
“O Yahweh, Diyos ng aming mga ninuno at ng buong kalangitan, kayo po ang namamahala sa lahat ng bansa at ikaw ang may lubos na kapangyarihan. Kaya walang maaaring lumaban sa inyo. 7 O(A) Diyos namin, ikaw ang nagpalayas sa mga tagarito upang ibigay ang lupaing ito sa bayan mong Israel magpakailanman. Ginawa ninyo iyon ayon sa inyong pangako kay Abraham na inyong kaibigan. 8 Dito nga sila tumira at itinayo nila ang Templong ito upang dito kayo sambahin. Sabi nila, 9 ‘Kung may masamang mangyari sa amin tulad ng digmaan, baha, salot o taggutom, haharap kami sa Templong ito upang humingi ng tulong sa inyo sapagkat dito kayo sinasamba. Tatawag kami sa inyo, papakinggan ninyo kami at ililigtas sa panahon ng aming kagipitan.’
10 “Ngayo'y(B) sinasalakay kami ng mga kawal mula sa Ammon, Moab at sa kaburulan ng Edom, mga lugar na hindi ninyo ipinahintulot na pasukin ng mga Israelita nang umalis sila sa Egipto, kaya sila'y hindi nawasak. 11 Ngayo'y ito po ang iginanti nila sa amin! Sinalakay nila kami at nais palayasin sa lupaing ito na ipinamana ninyo sa amin. 12 Ikaw po ang Diyos namin, parusahan ninyo sila. Hindi namin kayang labanan ang ganito karaming hukbo. Hindi po namin alam ang aming gagawin. Sa inyo lamang kami umaasa.”
13 Samantala, lahat ng kalalakihan ng Juda kasama ang kanilang mga asawa't anak ay dumulog kay Yahweh. 14 Ang Espiritu[a] ni Yahweh ay lumukob kay Jahaziel na anak ni Zacarias. Apo siya ni Benaias na anak ni Jeiel na apo naman ni Matanias, isa sa mga Levitang anak ni Asaf. 15 Sinabi(C) niya, “Makinig kayo, Haring Jehoshafat, at kayong mga taga-Juda at Jerusalem. Ganito ang sinasabi sa inyo ni Yahweh: ‘Huwag kayong matakot ni masiraan ng loob dahil sa maraming kaaway. Ang Diyos ang makikipaglaban at hindi kayo. 16 Harapin ninyo sila bukas sapagkat aahon sila sa Ziz. Makakasagupa ninyo sila sa may dulo ng libis sa silangan ng ilang ng Jeruel. 17 Hindi(D) na kayo kailangang lumaban. Manatili na lamang kayo sa inyong kinatatayuan at maghintay. Makikita ninyo ang pagtatagumpay ni Yahweh para sa inyo.’ Kaya hindi kayo dapat matakot ni masiraan ng loob. Harapin ninyo sila bukas sapagkat si Yahweh ang kasama ninyo!”
18 Si Jehoshafat at ang buong Juda at ang mga mamamayan ng Jerusalem ay nagpatirapa at sumamba kay Yahweh. 19 Tumayo naman ang mga Levita sa angkan ni Kohat at Korah at sa napakalakas na tinig ay nagpuri sila kay Yahweh, ang Diyos ng Israel.
20 Kinabukasan, maaga silang lumabas patungo sa ilang ng Tekoa. Ngunit bago sila umalis, sinabi sa kanila ni Jehoshafat, “Makinig kayo, mga taga-Juda at Jerusalem. Magtiwala kayo sa Diyos ninyong si Yahweh at magiging matatag kayo. Maniwala kayo sa kanyang mga propeta at magtatagumpay kayo.” 21 Matapos niyang paalalahanan ang mga tao, pumili siya ng mga mang-aawit na magpupuri kay Yahweh dahil sa kanyang kahanga-hangang kabanalan. Inilagay niya ang mga ito sa unahan ng hukbo at habang daa'y umaawit:
“Purihin si Yahweh,
pag-ibig niya'y tunay, laging tapat kailanman.”
22 Nang marinig ng mga kaaway ang awitan, ginulo sila ni Yahweh. Dahil dito, sila-sila ang nagkagulo. 23 Ang sinalakay ng mga Ammonita at Moabita ay ang kasama nilang taga-Edom, at nilipol nila ang mga ito. Pagkatapos, sila-sila ang nagpatayan.
24 Umakyat ang mga taga-Juda sa tore na nasa disyerto at nagmanman sa mga kaaway. Wala silang nakitang nakatakas. Lahat ay patay na nakahandusay sa lupa. 25 Napakaraming nasamsam ni Jehoshafat at ng kanyang mga kasama. Halos hindi nila madala ang nasamsam nilang kawan, mga kagamitan, damit at maraming mahahalagang bagay. Tatlong araw nila itong hinakot ngunit sa sobrang dami ay hindi nila nakuhang lahat. 26 Nang ikaapat na araw, nagtipon sila sa isang libis at nagpuri kay Yahweh. Kaya, simula noo'y tinawag na Libis ng Beraca ang lugar na iyon. 27 Sa pangunguna ni Jehoshafat, umuwi na ang lahat ng mga taga-Juda at Jerusalem. Tuwang-tuwa sila dahil sa tagumpay na ipinagkaloob sa kanila ni Yahweh. 28 Pagdating nila sa Jerusalem ay tumuloy sila sa Templo, kasabay ng tugtog ng mga alpa, lira at trumpeta. 29 Mula noon, ang lahat ng kaharian at bansa ay natakot nang malaman nila kung paano tinalo ni Yahweh ang mga kaaway ng Israel. 30 Naging tahimik ang buong nasasakupan ni Jehoshafat, at binigyan siya ng Diyos ng kapayapaan sa buong kaharian.
Ang Buod ng Kasaysayan ni Jehoshafat(E)
31 Tatlumpu't limang taóng gulang si Jehoshafat nang magsimula siyang maghari, at namahala siya sa Jerusalem sa loob ng dalawampu't limang taon. Ang ina niya'y si Azuba na anak ni Silhi. 32 Tulad ng kanyang amang si Asa, ginawa niya ang mabuti sa paningin ni Yahweh. 33 Gayunman, nanatili pa rin ang mga dambana ng mga pagano. Hindi pa lubusang nanumbalik ang mga tao sa Diyos ng kanilang mga ninuno.
34 Ang iba pang ginawa ni Jehoshafat buhat sa simula hanggang wakas ay nakasulat sa Kasaysayan ni Jehu na Anak ni Hanani na bahagi ng Aklat ng Kasaysayan ng mga Hari ng Israel.
35 Dumating ang panahong si Jehoshafat ay nakipagkasundo kay Ahazias, isang masamang hari ng Israel. 36 Nagkaisa silang magpagawa ng mga malalaking barko sa Ezion-geber. 37 Sa ginawang ito, sinabi ni Eliezer, anak ni Dodavahu na taga-Maresa, laban kay Jehoshafat, “Dahil sa pakikiisa mo kay Ahazias, wawasakin ni Yahweh ang lahat ng ginawa mo.” At lahat nang mga barkong ipinagawa nila ay winasak ng bagyo at hindi nakaalis.

20 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,
6 And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
7 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
8 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
9 If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
10 And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
11 Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
13 And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.
18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.
19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.
22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the Lord: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the Lord.
29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.
30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.
33 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongaber.
37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir Defeated
20 It happened after this that the people of (A)Moab with the people of (B)Ammon, and others with them besides the (C)Ammonites,[a] came to battle against Jehoshaphat. 2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from [b]Syria; and they are (D)in Hazazon Tamar” (which is (E)En Gedi). 3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set [c]himself to (F)seek the Lord, and (G)proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 So Judah gathered together to ask (H)help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
5 Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, 6 and said: “O Lord God of our fathers, are You not (I)God in heaven, and (J)do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and (K)in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? 7 Are You not (L)our God, who (M)drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham (N)Your friend forever? 8 And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying, 9 (O)‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your (P)name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’ 10 And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir—whom You (Q)would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but (R)they turned from them and did not destroy them— 11 here they are, rewarding us (S)by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit. 12 O our God, will You not (T)judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but (U)our eyes are upon You.”
13 Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord.
14 Then (V)the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. 15 And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: (W)‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, (X)for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16 Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the [d]brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. 17 (Y)You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, (Z)for the Lord is with you.”
18 And Jehoshaphat (AA)bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord, worshiping the Lord. 19 Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.

25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the [f]dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much. 26 And on the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of [g]Berachah, for there they blessed the Lord; therefore the name of that place was called The Valley of Berachah until this day. 27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them, to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had (AH)made them rejoice over their enemies. 28 So they came to Jerusalem, with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets, to the house of the Lord. 29 And (AI)the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel. 30 Then the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his (AJ)God gave him rest all around.
The End of Jehoshaphat’s Reign(AK)
31 (AL)So Jehoshaphat was king over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 32 And he walked in the way of his father (AM)Asa, and did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord. 33 Nevertheless (AN)the [h]high places were not taken away, for as yet the people had not (AO)directed their hearts to the God of their fathers.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, indeed they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, (AP)which is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
35 After this (AQ)Jehoshaphat king of Judah allied himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, (AR)who acted very (AS)wickedly. 36 And he allied himself with him (AT)to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they made the ships in Ezion Geber. 37 But Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has destroyed your works.” (AU)Then the ships were wrecked, so that they were not able to go (AV)to Tarshish.
