16 (A)L'anno trentaseiesimo del regno di Asa, Baasa, re d'*Israele, salí contro *Giuda, e costruí Rama per impedire che nessuno andasse e venisse dalla parte di Asa, re di Giuda. 2 Allora Asa prese dell'argento e dell'oro dai tesori della casa del Signore e del palazzo del re, e inviò dei messaggeri a Ben-Adad, re di *Siria, che abitava a *Damasco, per dirgli: 3 «Ci sia alleanza fra me e te, come vi fu tra mio padre e tuo padre. Ecco, ti mando dell'argento e dell'oro; va', rompi la tua alleanza con Baasa, re d'Israele, perché egli si ritiri da me». 4 Ben-Adad diede ascolto al re Asa; mandò i capi del suo esercito contro le città d'Israele, i quali espugnarono Ion, *Dan, Abel-Maim, e tutte le città di rifornimento di *Neftali. 5 Quando Baasa ebbe udito questo, cessò di costruire Rama, e sospese i suoi lavori. 6 Allora il re Asa convocò tutti quelli di Giuda, ed essi portarono via le pietre e il legname di cui Baasa si era servito per la costruzione di Rama; e con essi Asa costruí Gheba e Mispa.
7 (B)In quel tempo, Canani, il *veggente, si recò da Asa, re di Giuda, e gli disse: «Poiché ti sei appoggiato sul re di Siria invece di appoggiarti sul Signore, che è il tuo Dio, l'esercito del re di Siria è scampato dalle tue mani. 8 Gli Etiopi e i Libi non formavano forse un grande esercito con una moltitudine immensa di carri e di cavalieri? Eppure il Signore, perché tu ti eri appoggiato su di lui, li diede nelle tue mani. 9 Infatti il Signore percorre con lo sguardo tutta la terra per spiegare la sua forza in favore di quelli che hanno il cuore integro verso di lui. In questo tu hai agito da insensato; infatti, da ora in poi avrai delle guerre».
10 Asa s'indignò contro il veggente, e lo fece mettere in prigione, tanto questa cosa lo aveva irritato contro di lui. E, al tempo stesso, Asa divenne crudele anche contro alcuni del popolo.
11 Le azioni di Asa, le prime e le ultime, si trovano scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele. 12 Il trentanovesimo anno del suo regno, Asa ebbe una malattia ai piedi; la sua malattia fu gravissima; e, tuttavia, nella sua malattia non ricorse al Signore, ma ai medici.
13 Poi Asa si addormentò con i suoi padri; morí il quarantunesimo anno del suo regno, 14 e fu sepolto nella tomba che egli aveva fatto scavare per sé nella *città di *Davide. Fu steso sopra un letto pieno di profumi e di varie specie d'aromi composti con arte di profumiere; e ne bruciarono una grandissima quantità in suo onore.

16 Ászá uralkodásának harminchatodik évében[a] Baasá, Izráel királya bevonult Júda országába, és Ráma városában elkezdte egy erődítmény kiépítését. Azért tette ezt, hogy ellenőrzése alatt tarthassa a Júdába vezető utat, és megakadályozza, hogy bárki oda bejusson, vagy hogy onnan kijöhessen. 2 Ekkor Ászá aranyat és ezüstöt hozott ki az Örökkévaló házából, és a királyi palotából. Az egészet elküldte Benhadadnak, Arám királyának, aki Damaszkuszban uralkodott, és ezt üzente neki: 3 „Kössünk szövetséget, ahogy apám és a te apád is szövetségesek voltak! Ezt az ezüstöt és aranyat neked küldtem. Bontsd fel a Baasával, Izráel királyával kötött szövetségedet, hogy Baasá vonuljon vissza.”
4 Benhadad teljesítette Ászá kérését, és hadseregét Izráel ellen küldte. Megtámadták Izráel városait: Ijjónt, Dánt, Ábél-Máimot és Naftáli raktár-városait. 5 Amikor Baasá ezt meghallotta, abbahagyta a rámai erődítmény építését, és elvonult onnan. 6 Akkor Ászá király összegyűjtött Júdából minden férfit, és elhordatta az építőanyagot — a köveket és a gerendákat —, amit Baasá összegyűjtött Rámában. Hanáni próféciája
7 Ezután Hanáni, a „látó”[b] elment Ászához, Júda királyához, és ezt mondta neki: „Mivel nem az Örökkévalóban, Istenedben bíztál, hanem Arám királyában, azért menekült meg a kezed közül Arám királyának a hadserege. 8 Nem emlékszel, milyen hatalmas sereggel jöttek ellened az etiópok és a líbiaiak, mennyi harci szekérrel és lovassal? De mivel az Örökkévalóban bíztál, ő mégis a kezedbe adta őket. 9 Mert az Örökkévaló szeme át- meg átfésüli az egész Földet, és keresi azokat, akik teljes szívvel-lélekkel bíznak benne és ragaszkodnak hozzá, hogy erejét és hatalmát megmutassa abban, ahogyan megsegíti őket. Ostobán döntöttél ebben a dologban, ezért mostantól fogva háborúk lesznek ellened.”
10 Emiatt Ászá annyira megharagudott Hanánira, hogy börtönbe záratta. De nem ő volt az egyetlen, akivel Ászá igazságtalanul bánt; másokat, egyszerű embereket is bántalmazott ebben az időben.

11 Ászá tettei az elsőtől az utolsóig meg vannak írva Júda és Izráel királyainak könyvében.
12 Uralkodásának harminckilencedik évében Ászá súlyosan megbetegedett: a lábait valamilyen betegség támadta meg. Azonban ebben a helyzetben nem az Örökkévalót kereste, és nem az ő segítségében bízott, hanem az orvosokban. 13 Nem sokkal ezután — uralkodása negyvenegyedik évében[c] — meg is halt, akárcsak ősei. 14 Dávid városában temették el, abba a sziklaüregbe, amelyet magának készíttetett. Sírját, amelybe fektették, megtöltötték jó illatú fűszerekkel és balzsammal, majd nagy tüzet gyújtottak a tiszteletére.[d]

16 In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
2 Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the Lord and of the king's house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
3 There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
4 And Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.
5 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.
6 Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.
7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the Lord thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the Lord, he delivered them into thine hand.
9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
10 Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
11 And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians.
13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.
14 And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they made a very great burning for him.

Asa’s Last Years(A)(B)
16 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign Baasha(C) king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.
2 Asa then took the silver and gold out of the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus.(D) 3 “Let there be a treaty(E) between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.”
4 Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. They conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim[a] and all the store cities of Naphtali.(F) 5 When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and abandoned his work. 6 Then King Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using. With them he built up Geba and Mizpah.(G)
7 At that time Hanani(H) the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied(I) on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. 8 Were not the Cushites[b](J) and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers(K) of chariots and horsemen[c]? Yet when you relied on the Lord, he delivered(L) them into your hand. 9 For the eyes(M) of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish(N) thing, and from now on you will be at war.(O)”
10 Asa was angry with the seer because of this; he was so enraged that he put him in prison.(P) At the same time Asa brutally oppressed some of the people.
11 The events of Asa’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted(Q) with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek(R) help from the Lord,(S) but only from the physicians. 13 Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his ancestors. 14 They buried him in the tomb that he had cut out for himself(T) in the City of David. They laid him on a bier covered with spices and various blended perfumes,(U) and they made a huge fire(V) in his honor.
