Una nueva forma de relacionarnos con Dios
3 No decimos todo esto para hablar bien de nosotros mismos. Tampoco necesitamos presentarles cartas que hablen bien de nosotros, ni les pedimos que ustedes las escriban para que se las presentemos a otros. Algunos sí las necesitan, pero nosotros no. 2-3 Todos pueden ver claramente el bien que Cristo ha hecho en la vida de ustedes. Para que la gente hable bien de nosotros, sólo tiene que fijarse en ustedes. Porque ustedes son como una carta que habla en favor nuestro. Cristo mismo la escribió en nuestro corazón, para que nosotros la presentemos. No la escribió en piedra, ni con tinta, sino que la escribió con el Espíritu del Dios vivo. Y esa carta está a la vista de todos los que la quieran leer.
4 Por medio de Cristo, Dios nos asegura que todo eso es cierto. 5 Pero nosotros no somos capaces de hacer algo por nosotros mismos; es Dios quien nos da la capacidad de hacerlo. 6 Ahora Dios nos ha preparado para que anunciemos a todos nuestro nuevo compromiso con él. Este nuevo compromiso no se apoya en la ley, sino en el Espíritu de Dios. Porque la ley condena a muerte al pecador, pero el Espíritu de Dios da vida.
7-9 Dios escribió la ley en tablas de piedra, y se la entregó a Moisés. Aquel momento fue tan grandioso, que la cara de Moisés resplandecía. Y el resplandor era tan fuerte que los israelitas no podían mirar a Moisés cara a cara. Sin embargo, ese brillo pronto iba a desaparecer.
Si la entrega de esa ley fue tan grandiosa, el anuncio de la salvación será más grandioso todavía. Porque esa ley dice que merecemos morir por nuestros pecados. Pero gracias a lo que el Espíritu Santo hizo en nosotros, Dios nos declara inocentes. 10 ¡Y eso es mucho más grandioso que lo que hace la ley! 11 Y si fue gloriosa la ley que iba a desaparecer, mucho más gloriosa es la buena noticia que anuncia la salvación eterna.
12 Tan seguros estamos de todo esto, que no nos da miedo hablar. 13 No hacemos como Moisés, que se tapaba la cara con un velo para que los israelitas no vieran que el brillo de su cara se iba apagando. 14-15 Ellos nunca entendieron esto. Por eso hasta el día de hoy, cuando leen los libros de Moisés, no lo entienden. Es como si su entendimiento estuviera cubierto con un velo. Sólo Cristo puede ayudarlos a entender.
16 Sin embargo, esto llega a comprenderlo el que se arrepiente y pide perdón al Señor. ¡Es como si le quitaran el velo a su entendimiento! 17-18 Porque el Señor y el Espíritu son uno mismo, y donde está el Espíritu del Señor hay libertad. Y nosotros no tenemos ningún velo que nos cubra la cara. Somos como un espejo que refleja la grandeza del Señor, quien cambia nuestra vida. Gracias a la acción de su Espíritu en nosotros, cada vez nos parecemos más a él.

3 ¿Comenzamos otra vez a recomendarnos a nosotros mismos? ¿O tenemos necesidad, como algunos, de cartas de recomendación para vosotros, o de recomendación de vosotros? 2 Nuestras cartas sois vosotros, escritas en nuestros corazones, conocidas y leídas por todos los hombres; 3 siendo manifiesto que sois carta de Cristo expedida por nosotros, escrita no con tinta, sino con el Espíritu del Dios vivo; no en tablas de piedra,(A) sino en tablas de carne del corazón.
4 Y tal confianza tenemos mediante Cristo para con Dios; 5 no que seamos competentes por nosotros mismos para pensar algo como de nosotros mismos, sino que nuestra competencia proviene de Dios, 6 el cual asimismo nos hizo ministros competentes de un nuevo pacto,(B) no de la letra, sino del espíritu; porque la letra mata, mas el espíritu vivifica.
7 Y si el ministerio de muerte grabado con letras en piedras fue con gloria, tanto que los hijos de Israel no pudieron fijar la vista en el rostro de Moisés a causa de la gloria de su rostro,(C) la cual había de perecer, 8 ¿cómo no será más bien con gloria el ministerio del espíritu? 9 Porque si el ministerio de condenación fue con gloria, mucho más abundará en gloria el ministerio de justificación. 10 Porque aun lo que fue glorioso, no es glorioso en este respecto, en comparación con la gloria más eminente. 11 Porque si lo que perece tuvo gloria, mucho más glorioso será lo que permanece.
12 Así que, teniendo tal esperanza, usamos de mucha franqueza; 13 y no como Moisés, que ponía un velo sobre su rostro,(D) para que los hijos de Israel no fijaran la vista en el fin de aquello que había de ser abolido. 14 Pero el entendimiento de ellos se embotó; porque hasta el día de hoy, cuando leen el antiguo pacto, les queda el mismo velo no descubierto, el cual por Cristo es quitado. 15 Y aun hasta el día de hoy, cuando se lee a Moisés, el velo está puesto sobre el corazón de ellos. 16 Pero cuando se conviertan al Señor, el velo se quitará. 17 Porque el Señor es el Espíritu; y donde está el Espíritu del Señor, allí hay libertad. 18 Por tanto, nosotros todos, mirando a cara descubierta como en un espejo la gloria del Señor, somos transformados de gloria en gloria en la misma imagen, como por el Espíritu del Señor.

3 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

3 Are we starting to commend ourselves again? Or we do not, like some [false teachers], need written credentials or letters of recommendation to you or from you, [do we]?
2 [No] you yourselves are our letter of recommendation (our credentials), written in [a]your hearts, to be known (perceived, recognized) and read by everybody.
3 You show and make obvious that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, not written with ink but with [the] Spirit of [the] living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.(A)
4 Such is the reliance and confidence that we have through Christ toward and with reference to God.
5 Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God.
6 [It is He] Who has qualified us [making us to be fit and worthy and sufficient] as ministers and dispensers of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ], not [ministers] of the letter (of legally written code) but of the Spirit; for the code [of the Law] kills, but the [Holy] Spirit makes alive.(B)
7 Now if the dispensation of death engraved in letters on stone [the ministration of the Law], was inaugurated with such glory and splendor that the Israelites were not able to look steadily at the face of Moses because of its brilliance, [a glory] that was to fade and pass away,(C)
8 Why should not the dispensation of the Spirit [this spiritual [b]ministry whose task it is to cause men to obtain and be governed by the Holy Spirit] be attended with much greater and more splendid glory?
9 For if the service that condemns [the ministration of doom] had glory, how infinitely more abounding in splendor and glory must be the service that makes righteous [the ministry that produces and fosters righteous living and right standing with God]!
10 Indeed, in view of this fact, what once had splendor [[c]the glory of the Law in the face of Moses] has come to have no splendor at all, because of the overwhelming glory that exceeds and excels it [[d]the glory of the Gospel in the face of Jesus Christ].
11 For if that which was but passing and fading away came with splendor, how much more must that which remains and is permanent abide in glory and splendor!
12 Since we have such [glorious] hope (such joyful and confident expectation), we speak very freely and openly and fearlessly.
13 Nor [do we act] like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze upon the finish of the vanishing [splendor which had been upon it].
14 In fact, their minds were grown hard and calloused [they had become dull and had lost the power of understanding]; for until this present day, when the Old Testament (the old covenant) is being read, that same veil still lies [on their hearts], not being lifted [to reveal] that in Christ it is made void and done away.
15 Yes, down to this [very] day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies upon their minds and hearts.
16 But whenever a person turns [in repentance] to the Lord, the veil is stripped off and taken away.
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (emancipation from bondage, freedom).(D)
18 And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.
