9 It’s unnecessary for me to write to you about this service for God’s people. 2 I know about your willingness to help. I brag about you to the Macedonians, saying, “Greece has been ready since last year,” and your enthusiasm has motivated most of them.
3 But I’m sending the brothers so that our bragging about you in this case won’t be empty words, and so that you can be prepared, just as I keep telling them you will be. 4 If some Macedonians should come with me and find out that you aren’t ready, we (not to mention you) would be embarrassed as far as this project goes.
5 This is why I thought it was necessary to encourage the brothers to go to you ahead of time and arrange in advance the generous gift you have already promised. I want it to be a real gift from you. I don’t want you to feel like you are being forced to give anything. 6 What I mean is this: the one who sows a small number of seeds will also reap a small crop, and the one who sows a generous amount of seeds will also reap a generous crop.
7 Everyone should give whatever they have decided in their heart. They shouldn’t give with hesitation or because of pressure. God loves a cheerful giver. 8 God has the power to provide you with more than enough of every kind of grace. That way, you will have everything you need always and in everything to provide more than enough for every kind of good work. 9 As it is written, He scattered everywhere; he gave to the needy; his righteousness remains forever.[a]
10 The one who supplies seed for planting and bread for eating will supply and multiply your seed and will increase your crop, which is righteousness. 11 You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous in every way. Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God through us. 12 Your ministry of this service to God’s people isn’t only fully meeting their needs but it is also multiplying in many expressions of thanksgiving to God. 13 They will give honor to God for your obedience to your confession of Christ’s gospel. They will do this because this service provides evidence of your obedience, and because of your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone. 14 They will also pray for you, and they will care deeply for you because of the outstanding grace that God has given to you. 15 Thank God for his gift that words can’t describe!

9 1 Egentligen behöver jag inte skriva till er om hjälpen till de heliga. 2 Jag vet hur villiga ni är, och inför makedonierna brukar jag berömma mig av er goda vilja och berätta att Akaja har varit redo sedan i fjol. Er iver har sporrat de flesta. 3 Nu sänder jag ändå dessa bröder, för att vårt beröm av er i denna sak inte skall visa sig vara tomt prat och för att ni, som jag redan sagt, skall vara förberedda. 4 Annars får vi - för att inte säga ni - stå där och skämmas, när de makedonier som kommer med mig finner att ni, trots allt vårt förtroende för er, är oförberedda. 5 Därför anser jag det nödvändigt att be bröderna resa till er och i förväg göra i ordning den gåva som redan är utlovad, så att den kan ligga färdig som en frikostig gåva och inte vara snålt tilltagen.
6 Det säger jag: Den som sår sparsamt skall skörda sparsamt, och den som sår rikligt skall skörda rikligt. 7 Var och en må ge vad han har beslutat sig för i sitt hjärta, inte med olust eller av tvång. Ty Gud älskar en glad givare.[a] 8 Och Gud har makt att låta all nåd överflöda till er, så att ni alltid och under alla förhållanden har nog av allting och kan ge i överflöd till varje gott verk.[b] 9 Skriften säger: Han strör ut, han ger åt de fattiga, hans rättfärdighet varar i evighet. [c] 10 Han som ger såningsmannen säd till att så och bröd till att äta, skall ge er säd och mångdubbla den och låta er rättfärdighet bära god skörd. 11 Då blir ni rika på allt och kan vara frikostiga i allt, och det kommer att föra med sig att man tackar Gud när vi överlämnar gåvan. 12 Den tjänst ni utför med denna insamling bidrar inte bara till att fylla de heligas behov, utan bär också rik frukt genom deras många tacksägelser till Gud. 13 När ni nu består provet i denna tjänst, kommer de att prisa Gud för att ni lydigt bekänner er till Kristi evangelium och med så gott hjärta delar gemenskapen med dem och med alla. 14 De kommer också själva att be för er och längta efter er på grund av Guds överväldigande nåd mot er. 15 Gud vare tack för hans obeskrivligt rika gåva.

9 There is no need(A) for me to write to you about this service(B) to the Lord’s people.(C) 2 For I know your eagerness to help,(D) and I have been boasting(E) about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year(F) you in Achaia(G) were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action. 3 But I am sending the brothers(H) in order that our boasting about you in this matter should not prove hollow, but that you may be ready, as I said you would be.(I) 4 For if any Macedonians(J) come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to say anything about you—would be ashamed of having been so confident. 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers(K) to visit you in advance and finish the arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a generous gift,(L) not as one grudgingly given.(M)
Generosity Encouraged
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.(N) 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give,(O) not reluctantly or under compulsion,(P) for God loves a cheerful giver.(Q) 8 And God is able(R) to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need,(S) you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written:
10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food(V) will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.(W) 11 You will be enriched(X) in every way so that you can be generous(Y) on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.(Z)
12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs(AA) of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.(AB) 13 Because of the service(AC) by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God(AD) for the obedience that accompanies your confession(AE) of the gospel of Christ,(AF) and for your generosity(AG) in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15 Thanks be to God(AH) for his indescribable gift!(AI)
