⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ^(A)though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

¹² For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable ^(A)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. ¹³ For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness ¹⁴ your abundance at the present time should supply ^(B)their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness.

⁷ Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, ^(A)not reluctantly or under compulsion, for ^(B)God loves a cheerful giver.

⁷ a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. ⁸ And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? ⁹ For this could have been sold for a large sum and ^(A)given to the poor.” ¹⁰ But ^(B)Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. ¹¹ For ^(C)you always have the poor with you, but ^(D)you will not always have me. ¹² In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it ^(E)to prepare me for burial. ¹³ Truly, I say to you, wherever ^(F)this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told ^(G)in memory of her.”
