¹⁶ And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said:

³ I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.^[a]

⁴⁵ Then I will live among the people of Israel and be their God,

¹² I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.

³⁸ They will be my people, and I will be their God.

²⁶ And I will make a covenant of peace with them, an everlasting covenant. I will give them their land and increase their numbers,^[a] and I will put my Temple among them forever. ²⁷ I will make my home among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

²⁰ so they will obey my decrees and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.

¹⁶ Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in^[a] you? ¹⁷ God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
