² I feel a divine jealousy for you, for I promised you in marriage to one husband, to present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.^(A)

¹⁹ And I will take you for my wife forever; I will take you for my wife in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy.^{(A) 20} I will take you for my wife in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord.^(B)

²⁶ in order to make her holy by cleansing her with the washing of water by the word, ²⁷ so as to present the church to himself in splendor, without a spot or wrinkle or anything of the kind, so that she may be holy and without blemish.^(A)

¹³ He shall marry only a woman who is a virgin.^{(A) 14} A widow or a divorced woman or a woman who has been defiled, a prostitute—these he shall not marry. He shall marry a virgin of his own people, ¹⁵ that he may not profane his offspring among his people, for I am the Lord; I sanctify him.”

²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom who stands and hears him rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled.^(A)

²⁸ It is he whom we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone in all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.^[a](A)

²² They shall not marry a widow or a divorced woman but only a virgin of the stock of the house of Israel or a widow who is the widow of a priest.^(A)

⁸ For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the tender affection of Christ Jesus.^(A)

⁴ In the same way, my brothers and sisters, you have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God.^(A)
