¹⁰ For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.^(A)

¹⁸ When they heard this, they were silenced. And they praised God, saying, “Then God has given even to the gentiles the repentance that leads to life.”^(A)

¹⁹ Repent, therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out,

²⁵ correcting opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth^{(A) 26} and that they may escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.^[a]

¹³ David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan said to David, “Now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die.^(A)

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’^(A)

¹⁰ Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”^(A)

¹⁰ When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them, and he did not do it.^(A)

⁴⁷ then if they come to their senses in the land to which they have been taken captive and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have sinned and have done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’^{(A) 48} if they repent with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive and pray to you toward their land that you gave to their ancestors, the city that you have chosen, and the house that I have built for your name,^{(B) 49} then hear in heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their plea, maintain their cause, ⁵⁰ and forgive your people who have sinned against you and all their transgressions that they have committed against you, and grant them compassion in the sight of their captors, so that they may have compassion on them^(C)

¹⁷ You know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, even though he sought the blessing^[a] with tears.^(A)
