Fruitful Growth in the Faith

But also for this very reason, (C)giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue (D)knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control [b]perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and (E)to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither [c]barren (F)nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pressing Toward the Goal

12 Not that I have already (A)attained,[a] or am already (B)perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [b]apprehended; but one thing I do, (C)forgetting those things which are behind and (D)reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 (E)I press toward the goal for the prize of (F)the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Therefore let us, as many as are (G)mature, (H)have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, (I)God will reveal even this to you.

20 Moreover (A)the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace (B)abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

What shall we say then? (C)Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who (D)died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that (E)as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus (F)were baptized into His death? Therefore we were (G)buried with Him through baptism into death, that (H)just as Christ was raised from the dead by (I)the glory of the Father, (J)even so we also should walk in newness of life.

(K)For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that (L)our old man was crucified with Him, that (M)the body of sin might be [a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For (N)he who has died has been [b]freed from sin. Now (O)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that (P)Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, (Q)He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, (R)He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, [c]reckon yourselves to be (S)dead indeed to sin, but (T)alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
