Straining Toward the Goal

12 Not that I have already (A)obtained this or (B)am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: (C)forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for (D)the prize of the upward (E)call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are (F)mature think this way, and if in anything (G)you think otherwise, (H)God will reveal that also to you.

20 Now (A)the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, (B)grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, (C)as sin reigned in death, (D)grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

What shall we say then? (E)Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can (F)we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us (G)who have been baptized (H)into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were (I)buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as (J)Christ was raised from the dead by (K)the glory of the Father, we too might walk in (L)newness of life.

For (M)if we have been united with him in (N)a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that (O)our old self[a] (P)was crucified with him in order that (Q)the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For (R)one who has died (S)has been set free[b] from sin. Now (T)if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that (U)Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; (V)death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, (W)once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves (X)dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
