7 Since we have these promises, beloved, ^(A)let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body^[a] and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

⁷ For ^(A)God has not called us for ^(B)impurity, but in holiness.

¹¹ Beloved, I urge you ^(A)as sojourners and exiles ^(B)to abstain from the passions of the flesh, ^(C)which wage war against your soul.

^8 (A)Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. ^(B)Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and ^(C)purify your hearts, ^(D)you double-minded.

³ And everyone who ^(A)thus hopes in him ^(B)purifies himself as he is pure.

⁴ by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become ^(A)partakers of the divine nature, ^(B)having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. ⁵ For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith ^(C)with virtue,^[a] and virtue ^(D)with knowledge, ⁶ and knowledge with self-control, and self-control ^(E)with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, ⁷ and godliness ^(F)with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection ^(G)with love. ⁸ For if these qualities^[b] are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or ^(H)unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

^25 (A)I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from ^(B)all your uncleannesses, and ^(C)from all your idols ^(D)I will cleanse you. ²⁶ And I will give you ^(E)a new heart, and ^(F)a new spirit I will put within you. ^(G)And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
