^18 (A)while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

⁷ For ^(A)we walk by faith, not by sight.

²⁴ For we were saved in this hope, but ^(A)hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? ²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

By Faith We Understand

11 Now faith is the ^[a]substance of things hoped for, the ^[b]evidence ^(A)of things not seen.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, ^(A)the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. ¹⁷ And ^(B)the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

The Heavenly Hope

¹³ These all died in faith, ^(A)not having received the ^(B)promises, but ^(C)having seen them afar off ^[a]were assured of them, embraced them and ^(D)confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

^25 (A)And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.

² looking unto Jesus, the ^[a]author and ^[b]finisher of our faith, ^(A)who for the joy that was set before Him ^(B)endured the cross, despising the shame, and ^(C)has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

^3 (E)For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, ^(F)lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

²⁵ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the ^[a]passing pleasures of sin, ²⁶ esteeming ^(A)the ^[b]reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures ^[c]in Egypt; for he looked to the ^(B)reward.

²⁷ By faith ^(C)he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.
