⁶ The punishment^(A) inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient.

⁴ So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, ⁵ hand this man over^(A) to Satan^(B) for the destruction of the flesh,^[a][b] so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.^(C)

²⁰ But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove^(A) before everyone, so that the others may take warning.^(B)

¹¹ See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern,^(A) what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.

¹⁰ This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh^(A) in my use of authority—the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.^(B)
