The Thorn in the Flesh

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a ^(A)thorn in the flesh was given to me, ^(B)a messenger of Satan to ^[a]buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.

⁵⁵ But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be ^(A)irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell.

³ Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they shall be ^(A)thorns^[a] in your side, and ^(B)their gods shall ^[b]be a ^(C)snare to you.’ ”

^20 (A)But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.

^5 (A)deliver such a one to ^(B)Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord ^[a]Jesus.

²⁵ But Hezekiah ^(A)did not repay according to the favor shown him, for ^(B)his heart was lifted up; ^(C)therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem. ^26 (D)Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them ^(E)in the days of Hezekiah.

¹³ You know that ^(A)because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first.

⁶ not a ^[a]novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils ^(A)from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
