¹⁷ Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this? Do I make my plans ^(A)according to the flesh, ready to say “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time?

³⁷ Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; ^(A)anything more than this comes from evil.^[a]

¹² But above all, my brothers, ^(A)do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

² I beg of you ^(A)that when I am present I may not have to show ^(B)boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh. ³ For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.

¹⁸ As surely as ^(A)God is faithful, ^(B)our word to you has not been Yes and No. ¹⁹ For ^(C)the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, ^(D)Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but ^(E)in him it is always Yes. ²⁰ For ^(F)all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our ^(G)Amen to God for his glory.

³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and ^(A)lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when ^(B)I did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.

^15 (A)You judge according to the flesh; ^(B)I judge no one.
