9 Und da die Königin von Reicharabien das Gerücht von Salomo hörte, kam sie mit sehr vielem Volk gen Jerusalem, mit Kamelen, die Gewürze und Gold die Menge trugen und Edelsteine, Salomo mit Rätseln zu versuchen. Und da sie zu Salomo kam, redete sie mit ihm alles, was sie sich hatte vorgenommen.
2 Und der König sagte ihr alles, was sie fragte, und war Salomo nichts verborgen, das er ihr nicht gesagt hätte.
3 Und da die Königin von Reicharabien sah die Weisheit Salomos und das Haus, das er gebaut hatte,
4 die Speise für seinen Tisch, die Wohnung für die Knechte, die Ämter seiner Diener und ihre Kleider, seine Schenken mit ihren Kleidern und seinen Gang, da man hinaufging ins Haus des HERRN, konnte sie sich nicht mehr enthalten,
5 und sie sprach zum König: Es ist wahr, was ich gehört habe in meinem Lande von deinem Wesen und von deiner Weisheit.
6 Ich wollte aber ihren Worten nicht glauben, bis ich gekommmen bin und habe es mit meinen Augen gesehen. Und siehe, es ist mir nicht die Hälfte gesagt deiner großen Weisheit. Es ist mehr an dir denn das Gerücht, das ich gehört habe.
7 Selig sind deine Männer und selig diese deine Knechte, die allewege vor dir stehen und deine Weisheit hören.
8 Der HERR, dein Gott, sei gelobt, der dich liebhat, daß er dich auf seinen Stuhl zum König gesetzt hat dem HERRN, deinem Gott. Das macht, dein Gott hat Israel lieb, daß er es ewiglich aufrichte; darum hat er dich über sie zum König gesetzt, daß du Recht und Redlichkeit handhabest.
9 Und sie gab dem König hundertundzwanzig Zentner Gold und sehr viel Gewürze und Edelsteine. Es waren keine Gewürze wie diese, die die Königin von Reicharabien dem König Salomo gab.
10 Dazu die Knechte Hurams und die Knechte Salomos, die Gold aus Ophir brachten, die brachten auch Sandelholz und Edelsteine.
11 Und Salomo ließ aus dem Sandelholz Treppen im Hause des HERRN und im Hause des Königs machen und Harfen und Psalter für die Sänger. Es waren vormals nie gesehen solche Hölzer im Lande Juda.
12 Und der König Salomo gab der Königin von Reicharabien alles, was sie begehrte und bat, außer was sie zum König gebracht hatte. Und sie wandte sich und zog in ihr Land mit ihren Knechten.
13 Des Goldes aber, das Salomo in einem Jahr gebracht ward, war sechshundertsechsundsechzig Zentner,
14 außer was die Krämer und Kaufleute brachten. Und alle Könige der Araber und die Landpfleger brachten Gold und Silber zu Salomo.
15 Daher machte der König Salomo zweihundert Schilde vom besten Golde, daß sechshundert Lot auf einen Schild kam,
16 und dreihundert Tartschen vom besten Golde, daß dreihundert Lot Gold zu einer Tartsche kam.
17 Und der König tat sie ins Haus vom Walde Libanon. Und der König machte einen großen elfenbeinernen Stuhl und überzog ihn mit lauterem Golde.
18 Und der Stuhl hatte sechs Stufen und einen goldenen Fußschemel am Stuhl und hatte Lehnen auf beiden Seiten um den Sitz, und zwei Löwen standen neben den Lehnen.
19 Und zwölf Löwen standen daselbst auf den sechs Stufen zu beiden Seiten. Ein solches ist nicht gemacht in allen Königreichen.
20 Und alle Trinkgefäße des Königs Salomo waren golden, und alle Gefäße des Hauses vom Walde Libanon waren lauteres Gold; denn das Silber ward für nichts gerechnet zur Zeit Salomos.
21 Denn die Schiffe des Königs fuhren auf dem Meer mit den Knechten Hurams und kamen in drei Jahren einmal und brachten Gold, Silber, Elfenbein, Affen und Pfauen.
22 Also ward der König Salomo größer denn alle Könige auf Erden an Reichtum und Weisheit.
23 Und alle Könige auf Erden suchten das Angesicht Salomos, seine Weisheit zu hören, die ihm Gott in sein Herz gegeben hatte.
24 Und sie brachten ein jeglicher sein Geschenk, silberne und goldene Gefäße, Kleider, Waffen, Gewürz, Rosse und Maultiere, jährlich.
25 Und Salomo hatte viertausend Wagenpferde und zwölftausend Reisige; und man legte in die Wagenstädte und zu dem König nach Jerusalem.
26 Und er war ein Herr über alle Könige vom Strom an bis an der Philister Land und bis an die Grenze Ägyptens.
27 Und der König machte, daß des Silber so viel war zu Jerusalem wie die Steine und der Zedern so viel wie die Maulbeerbäume in den Gründen.
28 Und man brachte ihm Rosse aus Ägypten und aus allen Ländern.
29 Was aber mehr von Salomo zu sagen ist, beides, sein erstes und sein letztes, siehe, das ist geschrieben in den Geschichten des Propheten Nathan und in den Prophezeiungen Ahias von Silo und in den Geschichten Jeddis, des Sehers, wider Jerobeam, den Sohn Nebats.
30 Und Salomo regierte zu Jerusalem über ganz Israel vierzig Jahre.
31 Und Salomo entschlief mit seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn in der Stadt Davids, seines Vaters. Und Rehabeam, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

The Queen of Sheba Visits Solomon(A)
9 The queen of Sheba heard about Solomon’s reputation. So she came to Jerusalem to test him with riddles. She arrived with a large group of servants, with camels carrying spices, a large quantity of gold, and precious stones. When she came to Solomon, she talked to him about everything she had on her mind. 2 Solomon answered all her questions. No question was too difficult for Solomon to answer.
3 When the queen of Sheba saw Solomon’s wisdom, the palace he built, 4 the food on his table, his officers’ seating arrangement, the organization of his officials and the uniforms they wore, his cupbearers [a] and their uniforms, and the burnt offerings that he sacrificed at the Lord’s temple, she was breathless. 5 She told the king, “What I heard in my country about your words and your wisdom is true! 6 But I didn’t believe the reports until I came and saw it with my own eyes. I wasn’t even told about half of the extent of your wisdom. You’ve surpassed the stories I’ve heard. 7 How blessed your men must be! How blessed these servants of yours must be because they are always stationed in front of you and listen to your wisdom! 8 Thank the Lord your God, who is pleased with you. He has put you on his throne to be king on behalf of the Lord your God. Because of your God’s love for the people of Israel, he has established them permanently and made you king over them so that you would maintain justice and righteousness.”
9 She gave the king 9,000 pounds of gold, a very large quantity of spices, and precious stones. Never was there such a large quantity of spices ⌞in Israel⌟ as those that the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon.
10 Huram’s servants and Solomon’s servants who brought gold from Ophir also brought sandalwood and precious stones. 11 With the sandalwood the king made gateways to the Lord’s temple and the royal palace, and lyres and harps for the singers. No one had ever seen anything like them in Judah.
12 King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba anything she wanted, whatever she asked for, more than what she had brought him. Then she and her servants went back to her country.
Solomon’s Wealth(B)
13 The gold that came to Solomon in one year weighed 49,950 pounds, 14 not counting ⌞the gold⌟ which the merchants and traders brought. All the Arab kings and governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.
15 King Solomon made 200 large shields of hammered gold, using 15 pounds of gold on each shield. 16 He also made 300 small shields of hammered gold, using 7½ pounds of gold on each shield. The king put them in the hall ⌞named⌟ the Forest of Lebanon.
17 The king also made a large ivory throne and covered it with pure gold. 18 Six steps led to the throne, which had a gold footstool attached to it. There were armrests on both sides of the seat. Two lions stood beside the armrests. 19 Twelve lions stood on six steps, one on each side. Nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom.
20 All King Solomon’s cups were gold, and all the utensils for the hall ⌞named⌟ the Forest of Lebanon were fine gold. (Silver wasn’t considered valuable in Solomon’s time.) 21 The king had ships going to Tarshish with Huram’s sailors. Once every three years the Tarshish ships would bring gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys.
22 In wealth and wisdom King Solomon was greater than all the ⌞other⌟ kings of the world. 23 All the kings of the world wanted to listen to the wisdom that God gave Solomon. 24 So everyone who came brought him gifts: articles of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses, and mules. This happened year after year.
25 Solomon had 4,000 stalls for horses and chariots, and 12,000 war horses. He stationed ⌞some⌟ in chariot cities and ⌞others⌟ with himself in Jerusalem. 26 He ruled all the kings from the Euphrates River to the country of the Philistines and as far as the Egyptian border. 27 The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedars as plentiful as fig trees in the foothills. 28 Horses were imported for Solomon from Egypt and from all other countries.
Solomon’s Death(C)
29 Aren’t the rest of Solomon’s acts from first to last written in the records of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of Ahijah from Shiloh, and in Iddo the seer’s [b] visions about Jeroboam (son of Nebat)?
30 Solomon ruled in Jerusalem over all Israel for 40 years. 31 Solomon lay down in death with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. His son Rehoboam succeeded him as king.

The Queen of Sheba Visits Solomon(A)
9 When the queen of Sheba(B) heard of Solomon’s fame, she came to Jerusalem to test him with hard questions. Arriving with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all she had on her mind. 2 Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for him to explain to her. 3 When the queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of Solomon,(C) as well as the palace he had built, 4 the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, the cupbearers in their robes and the burnt offerings he made at[a] the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed.
5 She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. 6 But I did not believe what they said until I came(D) and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half the greatness of your wisdom was told me; you have far exceeded the report I heard. 7 How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 8 Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on his throne(E) as king to rule for the Lord your God. Because of the love of your God for Israel and his desire to uphold them forever, he has made you king(F) over them, to maintain justice and righteousness.”
9 Then she gave the king 120 talents[b] of gold,(G) large quantities of spices, and precious stones. There had never been such spices as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
10 (The servants of Hiram and the servants of Solomon brought gold from Ophir;(H) they also brought algumwood[c] and precious stones. 11 The king used the algumwood to make steps for the temple of the Lord and for the royal palace, and to make harps and lyres for the musicians. Nothing like them had ever been seen in Judah.)
12 King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired and asked for; he gave her more than she had brought to him. Then she left and returned with her retinue to her own country.
Solomon’s Splendor(I)
13 The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents,[d] 14 not including the revenues brought in by merchants and traders. Also all the kings of Arabia(J) and the governors of the territories brought gold and silver to Solomon.
15 King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels[e] of hammered gold went into each shield. 16 He also made three hundred small shields(K) of hammered gold, with three hundred shekels[f] of gold in each shield. The king put them in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon.(L)
17 Then the king made a great throne covered with ivory(M) and overlaid with pure gold. 18 The throne had six steps, and a footstool of gold was attached to it. On both sides of the seat were armrests, with a lion standing beside each of them. 19 Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any other kingdom. 20 All King Solomon’s goblets were gold, and all the household articles in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Nothing was made of silver, because silver was considered of little value in Solomon’s day. 21 The king had a fleet of trading ships[g] manned by Hiram’s[h] servants. Once every three years it returned, carrying gold, silver and ivory, and apes and baboons.
22 King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth.(N) 23 All the kings(O) of the earth sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. 24 Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift(P)—articles of silver and gold, and robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules.
25 Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots,(Q) and twelve thousand horses,[i] which he kept in the chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem. 26 He ruled(R) over all the kings from the Euphrates River(S) to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.(T) 27 The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as plentiful as sycamore-fig trees in the foothills. 28 Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from all other countries.
Solomon’s Death(U)
29 As for the other events of Solomon’s reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the records of Nathan(V) the prophet, in the prophecy of Ahijah(W) the Shilonite and in the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam(X) son of Nebat? 30 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years. 31 Then he rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David(Y) his father. And Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king.
