Solomon’s Later Building Projects
8 At the end of twenty years(A) during which Solomon had built the Lord’s temple and his own palace – 2 Solomon had rebuilt the cities Hiram[a] gave him and settled Israelites there – 3 Solomon went to Hamath-zobah and seized it. 4 He built Tadmor in the wilderness along with all the storage cities that he built in Hamath. 5 He built Upper Beth-horon and Lower Beth-horon(B) – fortified cities with walls, gates, and bars(C) – 6 Baalath, all the storage cities that belonged to Solomon, all the chariot cities, the cavalry cities, and everything Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, Lebanon, or anywhere else in the land of his dominion.
7 As for all the peoples who remained of the Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not from Israel(D) – 8 their descendants who remained in the land after them, those the Israelites had not completely destroyed – Solomon imposed forced labour on them; it is this way today.(E) 9 But Solomon did not consign the Israelites to be slaves for his work; they were soldiers, commanders of his captains, and commanders of his chariots and his cavalry. 10 These were King Solomon’s district governors: 250 who supervised the people.
11 Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh from the city of David to the house he had built for her,(F) for he said, ‘My wife must not live in the house[b] of King David of Israel because the places the ark of the Lord has come into are holy.’
Public Worship Established at the Temple
12 At that time(G) Solomon offered burnt offerings to the Lord on the Lord’s altar he had made in front of the portico.(H) 13 He followed the daily requirement(I) for offerings according to the commandment of Moses(J) for Sabbaths, New Moons, and the three annual appointed festivals: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Shelters.(K) 14 According to the ordinances of his father David, he appointed the divisions of the priests over their service,(L) of the Levites over their responsibilities to offer praise and to minister before the priests following the daily requirement,(M) and of the gatekeepers by their divisions with respect to each temple gate,(N) for this had been the command of David, the man of God.(O) 15 They did not turn aside from the king’s command regarding the priests and the Levites concerning any matter or concerning the treasuries.(P) 16 All of Solomon’s work was carried out from the day the foundation was laid for the Lord’s temple until it was finished. So the Lord’s temple was completed.
Solomon’s Fleet
17 At that time(Q) Solomon went to Ezion-geber and to Eloth(R) on the seashore in the land of Edom. 18 So Hiram[c] sent ships to him by his servants along with crews of experienced seamen. They went with Solomon’s servants to Ophir, took from there sixteen tonnes[d] of gold, and delivered it to King Solomon.(S)

8 Und nach zwanzig Jahren, in welchen Salomo das Haus des Herrn und sein eigenes Haus gebaut hatte, 2 baute Salomo auch die Städte aus, die Huram dem Salomo gegeben, und ließ die Kinder Israel darin wohnen. 3 Und Salomo zog gen Chamat-Zoba und überwältigte es, 4 und baute Tadmor in der Wüste und alle Vorratsstädte, die er baute in Chamat. 5 Er baute auch das obere Beth-Horon und das untere Beth-Horon, feste Städte mit Mauern, Toren und Riegeln. 6 Auch Baalat und alle Vorratsstädte, die Salomo gehörten, und alle Wagenstädte und Reiterstädte und alles, wozu Salomo zu bauen Lust hatte in Jerusalem und auf dem Libanon und im ganzen Lande seiner Herrschaft.
7 Und alles Volk, das von den Hetitern, Amoritern, Pheresitern, Hevitern und Jebusitern noch übrig war, die nicht zu den Kindern Israel gehörten, 8 ihre Nachkommen, die sie im Lande gelassen, welche die Kinder Israel nicht vertilgt hatten, machte Salomo fronpflichtig, bis auf diesen Tag. 9 Aber von den Kindern Israel machte er keine zu Leibeigenen für seine Arbeit, sondern sie waren seine Kriegsleute und Oberste seiner Wagenkämpfer und seine Reiter. 10 Und die Zahl dieser obersten Amtleute des Königs Salomo betrug zweihundertfünfzig, die hatten die Aufsicht über das Volk.
11 Und Salomo brachte die Tochter des Pharao aus der Stadt Davids herauf in das Haus, das er für sie gebaut hatte. Denn er sprach: Mein Weib soll nicht im Hause Davids, des Königs Israels, wohnen; denn heilig ist die Stätte, weil die Lade des Herrn hineingekommen ist!
12 Von da an opferte Salomo dem Herrn Brandopfer auf dem Altar des Herrn, den er vor der Halle gebaut hatte, 13 was an jedem Tag zu opfern war nach dem Gesetze Moses, an den Sabbaten und Neumonden und an den Festzeiten, dreimal im Jahre, nämlich am Fest der ungesäuerten Brote, am Fest der Wochen und am Laubhüttenfest. 14 Und er bestellte die Abteilungen der Priester, wie sein Vater David sie geordnet hatte, zu ihrem Amt, und die Leviten zu ihren Posten, um zu loben und zu dienen vor den Priestern, wie es ein jeder Tag erforderte; und die Torhüter nach ihren Abteilungen zu einem jeden Tor; denn also hatte es David, der Mann Gottes, befohlen. 15 Und sie wichen nicht vom Gebot des Königs betreffs der Priester und Leviten, in keinem Wort, auch hinsichtlich der Schätze nicht.
16 Also kam das ganze Werk Salomos zustande, von dem Tage an, als das Haus des Herrn gegründet ward, bis zu seiner Vollendung; er machte das Haus des Herrn fertig.
17 Damals ging Salomo nach Ezjon-Geber und Elot[a], das am Gestade des Meeres liegt, im Lande Edom. 18 Und Huram sandte ihm Schiffe durch seine Knechte, die des Meeres kundig waren; die fuhren mit den Knechten Salomos nach Ophir und holten von dort 450 Talente Gold und brachten es dem König Salomo.

8 Veinte años tardó el rey Salomón en construir el Templo del Señor y su propio palacio. 2 Después de esto, reconstruyó las ciudades que había entregado Hiram y las pobló con israelitas. 3 Luego marchó contra la ciudad de Jamat de Sobá y la conquistó. 4 Reconstruyó Tadmor, en el desierto, y todos los lugares de almacenamiento que había construido en Jamat. 5 Reconstruyó como ciudades fortificadas Bet Jorón la de arriba y Bet Jorón la de abajo, y les puso murallas, puertas y cerrojos. 6 Lo mismo hizo con Balat y con todos los lugares de almacenamiento que tenía, con los cuarteles para sus carros de combate y para su caballería, y con todo cuanto quiso construir en Jerusalén, en el Líbano y en todo el territorio bajo su dominio.
7 En el país quedaron los descendientes de los pueblos no israelitas, es decir, los hititas, amorreos, ferezeos, heveos y jebuseos. Los israelitas no pudieron destruir esos pueblos, 8 pero Salomón sometió a trabajos forzados a todos los que Israel no había destruido. Así continúan hasta el día de hoy. 9 Pero a los israelitas Salomón no los hizo trabajar como esclavos, sino que servían como soldados, comandantes de sus capitanes, comandantes de los carros de combate y de los de caballería. 10 El rey Salomón tenía además doscientos cincuenta oficiales en jefe que supervisaban a los obreros.
11 A la hija del faraón, Salomón la trasladó de la Ciudad de David al palacio que le había construido, pues dijo: «Mi esposa no debe vivir en el palacio de David, rey de Israel, porque los lugares donde ha estado el arca del Señor son sagrados».
12 En el altar del Señor que había construido frente al atrio, Salomón ofrecía holocaustos al Señor 13 los días correspondientes, según lo ordenado por Moisés: los sábados, las fiestas de luna nueva y las tres fiestas anuales, es decir, la de los Panes sin levadura, la de las Semanas y la de las Enramadas. 14 Conforme a lo dispuesto por su padre David, Salomón asignó turnos a los sacerdotes para prestar su servicio. A los levitas los estableció en sus cargos para entonar las alabanzas y para ayudar a los sacerdotes en los ritos diarios. También fijó turnos a los porteros en cada puerta, porque así lo había ordenado David, hombre de Dios. 15 Y se obedecieron todas las órdenes del rey en cuanto a los sacerdotes y levitas, incluso en lo referente a los tesoros.
16 Toda la obra de Salomón se llevó a cabo, desde el día en que se echaron los cimientos del templo hasta que se terminó de construirlo. Así el Templo del Señor quedó perfectamente terminado.
17 Luego Salomón se dirigió a Ezión Guéber y a Elat, en la costa de Edom. 18 Hiram, por medio de sus oficiales, envió a Salomón barcos y marineros expertos. Estos y los oficiales de Salomón navegaron a Ofir y volvieron con cuatrocientos cincuenta talentos[a] de oro, que entregaron al rey Salomón.
