Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication

Then (A)Solomon spoke:

“The Lord said He would dwell in the (B)dark cloud.
I have surely built You an exalted house,
And (C)a place for You to dwell in forever.”

Arise, O Lord God, to Your (B)resting place,
You and the ark of Your strength.
Let Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
And let Your saints (C)rejoice in goodness.

42 “O Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed;
(D)Remember the mercies of Your servant David.”

Solomon Dedicates the Temple(E)

When (F)Solomon had finished praying, (G)fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and (H)the glory of the Lord filled the [a]temple. (I)And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house. When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying:

(K)For His mercy endures forever.”

Simeon Sees God’s Salvation

25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, (A)waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not (B)see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 So he came (C)by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:

29 “Lord, (D)now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes (E)have seen Your salvation
31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
32 (F)A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”

33 [a]And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.
