King Joash of Judah(A)
24 Joash[a] was 7 years old when he began to rule, and he ruled for 40 years in Jerusalem. His mother was Zibiah from Beersheba. 2 Joash did what Yahweh considered right, as long as the priest Jehoiada lived.
3 Jehoiada got Joash two wives, and Joash had sons and daughters.
4 After this, Joash wanted to renovate Yahweh’s temple. 5 He gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them, “Go to the cities of Judah, and collect money throughout Israel to repair the temple of your Elohim every year. Do it immediately!” But the Levites didn’t do it immediately.
6 So the king called for the chief priest Jehoiada and asked him, “Why didn’t you require the Levites to bring the contributions from Judah and Jerusalem? Yahweh’s servant Moses and the assembly had required Israel to give contributions for the use of the tent containing the words of God’s promise.” 7 (The sons of that wicked woman Athaliah had broken into Elohim’s temple and used all the holy things of Yahweh’s temple to worship other gods—the Baals.)
8 The king issued an order, and they made a box and placed it outside the gate of Yahweh’s temple. 9 Then they issued a proclamation in Judah and Jerusalem that the contributions should be brought to Yahweh. (In the desert Elohim’s servant Moses had required Israel to make contributions.) 10 All the officials and all the people were overjoyed. They brought the money and dropped it into the box until it was full. 11 Whenever the Levites brought the box to the king’s officers and they saw a lot of money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer would empty the box and put it back in its place. They would do this every day, so they collected a lot of money. 12 The king and Jehoiada would give the money to the foremen who were working on Yahweh’s temple, and they hired masons and carpenters to renovate Yahweh’s temple. They also hired men who worked with iron and bronze to repair Yahweh’s temple. 13 As the men worked, the project progressed under the foremen’s guidance. They restored Elohim’s temple to its proper condition and reinforced it.
14 When they finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, who used it to make utensils for Yahweh’s temple. They made dishes and gold and silver utensils for the service and for the offerings. As long as Jehoiada lived, they sacrificed burnt offerings in Yahweh’s temple.
Joash’s Sin Leads to His Assassination(B)
15 When Jehoiada was old and had lived out his years, he died. He was 130 years old when he died. 16 He was buried in the City of David with the kings because of the good he had done in Israel for Elohim and the temple.
17 After he died, the officials of Judah bowed in front of the king with their faces touching the ground. Then the king listened to their advice. 18 They abandoned the temple of Yahweh Elohim of their ancestors and worshiped idols and the poles dedicated to the goddess Asherah. This offense of theirs brought Elohim’s anger upon Judah and Jerusalem.
19 Yahweh sent them prophets to bring them back to himself. The prophets warned them, but they wouldn’t listen. 20 The Ruach Elohim gave Zechariah, son of the priest Jehoiada, strength. Zechariah stood in front of the people and said to them, “This is what Elohim says: Why are you breaking Yahweh’s commands? You won’t prosper that way! Yahweh has abandoned you because you have abandoned him.” 21 But they plotted against Zechariah, and by the king’s order they stoned him to death in the courtyard of Yahweh’s temple. 22 King Joash did not remember how kind Zechariah’s father, Jehoiada, had been to him. Instead, he killed Jehoiada’s son. As Zechariah died, he said, “May Yahweh see this and get revenge!”
23 At the end of the year, the Aramean army attacked Joash. They came to Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the people’s leaders. The Arameans sent all the loot they took from Judah and Jerusalem to the king of Damascus. 24 The Aramean army had come with a small number of men, but Yahweh handed Joash’s large army over to them because Joash’s soldiers had abandoned Yahweh Elohim of their ancestors. So the Arameans carried out the Lord’s judgment on Joash. 25 When the Arameans withdrew, they left him suffering from many wounds. His own officials plotted against him for murdering the son of the priest Jehoiada. They killed Joash in his bed. When he died, they buried him in the City of David, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings. 26 These were the men who conspired against him: Zabad, son of an Ammonite woman named Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of a Moabite woman named Shimrith. 27 The record about his sons, the many divine revelations against him, and the rebuilding of Elohim’s temple is in the notes made in the Book of the Kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him as king.

Joash Repairs the Temple
24 (A)Joash[a] was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba. 2 (B)And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest. 3 Jehoiada got for him two wives, and he had sons and daughters.
4 After this Joash (C)decided to (D)restore the house of the Lord. 5 And he gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them, “Go out to the cities of (E)Judah and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that you act quickly.” But the Levites did not act quickly. 6 So the king summoned Jehoiada the chief and said to him, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem (F)the tax levied by Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the congregation of Israel for (G)the tent of testimony?” 7 For (H)the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken into the house of God, and had also used all (I)the dedicated things of the house of the Lord for the Baals.
8 So the king commanded, and they made a chest and set it outside the gate of the house of the Lord. 9 And (J)proclamation was made throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring in for the Lord (K)the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness. 10 And all the princes and all the people rejoiced and brought their tax and dropped it into the chest until they had finished.[b] 11 And whenever the chest was brought to the king's officers by the Levites, when they saw that there was much money in it, the king's secretary and the officer of the chief priest would come and empty the chest and take it and return it to its place. Thus they did day after day, and collected money in abundance. 12 And the king and Jehoiada gave it to those who had charge of the work of the house of the Lord, and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the Lord, and also workers in iron and bronze to repair the house of the Lord. 13 So those who were engaged in the work labored, and the repairing went forward in their hands, and they restored the house of God to its proper condition and strengthened it. 14 And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, and with it (L)were made utensils for the house of the Lord, both for the service and for the burnt offerings, and dishes for incense and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord regularly all the days of Jehoiada.
15 But Jehoiada grew old and full of days, and died. He was 130 years old at his death. 16 And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.
17 Now after the death of Jehoiada the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king. Then the king listened to them. 18 And they abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served (M)the Asherim and the idols. And (N)wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs. 19 (O)Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord. (P)These testified against them, but they would not pay attention.
Joash's Treachery
20 (Q)Then the Spirit of God clothed Zechariah (R)the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, (S)‘Why do you break the commandments of the Lord, so that you cannot prosper? (T)Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’” 21 But (U)they conspired against him, (V)and by command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord. 22 Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness that Jehoiada, Zechariah's father, had shown him, but killed his son. And when he was dying, he said, “May the Lord see (W)and avenge!”[c]
Joash Assassinated
23 At the end of the year (X)the army of the Syrians came up against Joash. They came to Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus. 24 Though the army of the Syrians had come with few men, (Y)the Lord delivered into their hand a very great army, (Z)because Judah[d] had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they (AA)executed judgment on Joash.
25 When they had departed from him, leaving him (AB)severely wounded, (AC)his servants conspired against him because of the blood of (AD)the son[e] of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed. So he died, and they buried him in the city of David, (AE)but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings. 26 Those who conspired against him were Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonite, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabite. 27 Accounts of his sons and of the many oracles against him and of (AF)the rebuilding[f] of the house of God are written in the (AG)Story[g] of the Book of the Kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

Joash blir kung i Juda
24 (A) Joash var sju år gammal när han blev kung, och han regerade fyrtio år[a] i Jerusalem. Hans mor hette Sibja och var från Beer-Sheba. 2 Joash gjorde det som var rätt i Herrens ögon så länge prästen Jojada levde. 3 Och Jojada tog åt honom två hustrur, och han fick söner och döttrar.
4 Efter en tid ville Joash reparera Herrens hus. 5 Han samlade prästerna och leviterna och sade till dem: ”Ge er ut till Juda städer varje år och samla in pengar från hela Israel för att få er Guds hus i ordning. Och skynda er med det.” Men leviterna gjorde sig ingen brådska. 6 (B) Då kallade kungen till sig översteprästen Jojada och sade till honom: ”Varför har du inte sett till att leviterna driver in från Juda och Jerusalem den avgift till vittnesbördets tabernakel som Herrens tjänare Mose har pålagt[b] Israels församling? 7 Den ogudaktiga Ataljas söner har brutit ner Guds hus. Allt som var helgat till Herrens hus har de använt till baalerna.”
8 (C) På kungens befallning gjorde man en kista och ställde den utanför porten till Herrens hus. 9 (D) Och man lät utropa i Juda och Jerusalem att den skatt som Guds tjänare Mose hade ålagt Israel i öknen skulle erläggas åt Herren. 10 Alla furstarna och allt folket kom då glada med sina bidrag och kastade dem i kistan tills allt var insamlat.
11 När det blev tid att genom leviternas försorg föra kistan till de granskningsmän som kungen hade tillsatt, märkte de att det fanns mycket pengar i den. Då kom kungens sekreterare och översteprästens tjänsteman och tömde kistan och bar den sedan tillbaka till dess plats. De gjorde så dag efter dag och samlade in rikligt med pengar. 12 Sedan lämnade kungen och Jojada pengarna åt de män som skulle utföra arbetet på Herrens hus. De lejde också stenhuggare och hantverkare för att få Herrens hus i ordning, och smeder som arbetade med järn och koppar.
13 De som fått i uppdrag att utföra arbetet gjorde det med framgång, och de återställde Guds hus i dess förra skick och förstärkte det. 14 När de var färdiga med arbetet bar de resten av pengarna till kungen och Jojada, och man gjorde av dem kärl till Herrens hus, kärl till gudstjänsten och offren, skålar och andra kärl av guld och silver. Och man offrade brännoffer i Herrens hus hela tiden så länge Jojada levde.
Andligt förfall i Juda
15 Men Jojada blev gammal och mätt på att leva, och han dog. Han var vid sin död hundratrettio år. 16 Man begravde honom i Davids stad bland kungarna, därför att han hade gjort det som var gott mot Israel och mot Gud och hans hus.
17 Men efter Jojadas död kom Juda furstar och föll ner för kungen, och han lyssnade till dem. 18 Och de övergav Herrens, sina fäders Guds, hus och tjänade asherapålarna och avgudarna. Då kom Guds vrede över Juda och Jerusalem på grund av dessa synder.
19 (E) Och profeter blev sända till dem för att få dem att vända om till Herren, och dessa varnade dem, men de lyssnade inte till dem.
20 (F) Men Sakarja, prästen Jojadas son, hade blivit beklädd med Guds Andes kraft. Han steg fram inför folket och sade till dem: ”Så säger Gud: Varför bryter ni mot Herrens bud? Det kan inte sluta lyckligt. Eftersom ni har övergett Herren, har han också övergett er.”
21 (G) Då gaddade de ihop sig mot honom, och på kungens befallning stenade de honom på förgården till Herrens hus. 22 (H) Kung Joash tänkte inte på den kärlek som Sakarjas far Jojada hade visat honom utan dödade hans son. Och i sin dödstund sade Sakarja: ”Herren ska se det här och utkräva hämnd.”
Slutet av Joashs regering
23 (I) Efter ett år drog arameernas här upp[c] mot Joash. De kom till Juda och Jerusalem och utrotade ur folket alla dess furstar. Och allt byte som de tog sände de till kungen i Damaskus. 24 Arameernas här kom med endast en liten skara, men Herren gav ändå en mycket stor här i deras hand därför att folket hade övergett Herren, sina fäders Gud. Så fick arameerna utföra straffdomen över Joash.
25 (J) När de drog bort från honom – de lämnade honom kvar svårt sjuk – gaddade hans tjänare ihop sig mot honom, därför att han hade utgjutit prästen Jojadas söners blod, och de dödade honom på hans bädd. Det blev hans död, och man begravde honom i Davids stad. Men man begravde honom inte i kungagravarna. 26 De som gaddade ihop sig mot honom var Sabad, son till ammonitiskan Shimeat, och Josabad, son till moabitiskan Shimrit.
27 (K) Vad beträffar Joashs söner och de många profetior som förkunnades mot honom och hur Guds hus återupprättades, det är skrivet i ”Utläggning av Kungaboken”. Hans son Amasja blev kung efter honom.

2 És cselekedék Joás az Úr elõtt kedves dolgot, Jójada papnak teljes életében.
3 Vett pedig néki Jójada két feleséget, és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
4 Ezek után elvégezé magában Joás, hogy megújítja az Úrnak házát.
5 És összehivatá a papokat és a Lévitákat, és monda nékik: Menjetek el a Júda városaiba, és szedjetek az Izráel népétõl fejenként pénzt, hogy a ti Istentek háza esztendõnként kijavíttassék. Ti pedig siessetek e dologgal; de a Léviták nem sietének.

14 Mikor pedig elvégezték, a megmaradt pénzt vivék a királynak és Jójadának, melybõl csinálának az Úr háza számára edényeket, az [isteni ]tisztelet és áldozat számára kanalakat, s arany és ezüst edényeket. És áldozának vala égõáldozatokkal szüntelen az Úrnak házában, Jójadának, teljes életében.
15 Megvénhedék pedig Jójada, és megelégedvén életével, meghala. Százharmincz esztendõs korában hala meg.
16 És eltemeték õt a Dávid városában a királyok között, mivel kedves dolgot cselekedett vala Izráelben mind Istennel s mind az õ házával.
17 Minekutána pedig meghala Jójada, eljövének a Júda fejedelmei, és meghajták magokat a király elõtt; a király pedig hallgatott reájok.
18 És elhagyák az Úrnak, atyáik Istenének házát, és szolgálának az Aseráknak és bálványoknak; mely vétkök miatt lõn [az Úrnak] haragja Júda és Jeruzsálem ellen.

21 Amazok pedig reá támadván, ott az Úr háza pitvarában megkövezék õt a király parancsolatjából.
22 És nem emlékezék meg Joás király a jótéteményrõl, a melylyel annak atyja, Jójada vala õ hozzá éltében, hanem megöleté a fiát. Mikor pedig meghalna, ezt mondá: Látja az Úr és bosszút áll!
23 És már az esztendõ elmúltával feljöve ellene Siria [királyának] serege, és méne Júdára és Jeruzsálemre, és kiirtották a népnek minden vezéreit a nép közül, és minden zsákmányukat küldék Damaskusba a királynak;
24 Mert noha kevés emberrel jött vala rájok a Siriabeli had, mindazáltal az Úr kezökbe adá [Júdának] nagy seregét, mivel az Urat, atyáiknak Istenét elhagyták; és Joáson is bosszút állának.
25 És mikor tõle elmentek (súlyos betegségben hagyták hátra): pártot ütének ellene az õ szolgái, a Jójada pap fiának haláláért, és megölék õt ágyában, és meghala. És eltemeték õt a Dávid városában, de nem temeték õt a királyok sírjába.
26 Ezek ütöttek ellene pártot: Zabád, az Ammonbeli Simeát asszony fia, és Józabád, a Moábbeli Simrith fia.
27 Az õ fiai, és alatta az adónak megszaporodása, s az Isten házának kijavítása, ímé meg vannak írva a királyok könyvének magyarázatában. Uralkodék helyette az õ fia, Amásia.
