23 In the seventh year Jehoiada showed his strength. He made a covenant with the commanders of units of a hundred: Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zikri. 2 They went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites(A) and the heads of Israelite families from all the towns. When they came to Jerusalem, 3 the whole assembly made a covenant(B) with the king at the temple of God.
Jehoiada said to them, “The king’s son shall reign, as the Lord promised concerning the descendants of David.(C) 4 Now this is what you are to do: A third of you priests and Levites who are going on duty on the Sabbath are to keep watch at the doors, 5 a third of you at the royal palace and a third at the Foundation Gate, and all the others are to be in the courtyards of the temple of the Lord. 6 No one is to enter the temple of the Lord except the priests and Levites on duty; they may enter because they are consecrated, but all the others are to observe(D) the Lord’s command not to enter.[a] 7 The Levites are to station themselves around the king, each with weapon in hand. Anyone who enters the temple is to be put to death. Stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
8 The Levites and all the men of Judah did just as Jehoiada the priest ordered.(E) Each one took his men—those who were going on duty on the Sabbath and those who were going off duty—for Jehoiada the priest had not released any of the divisions.(F) 9 Then he gave the commanders of units of a hundred the spears and the large and small shields that had belonged to King David and that were in the temple of God. 10 He stationed all the men, each with his weapon in his hand, around the king—near the altar and the temple, from the south side to the north side of the temple.
11 Jehoiada and his sons brought out the king’s son and put the crown on him; they presented him with a copy(G) of the covenant and proclaimed him king. They anointed him and shouted, “Long live the king!”
12 When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and cheering the king, she went to them at the temple of the Lord. 13 She looked, and there was the king,(H) standing by his pillar(I) at the entrance. The officers and the trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and musicians with their instruments were leading the praises. Then Athaliah tore her robes and shouted, “Treason! Treason!”
14 Jehoiada the priest sent out the commanders of units of a hundred, who were in charge of the troops, and said to them: “Bring her out between the ranks[b] and put to the sword anyone who follows her.” For the priest had said, “Do not put her to death at the temple of the Lord.” 15 So they seized her as she reached the entrance of the Horse Gate(J) on the palace grounds, and there they put her to death.
16 Jehoiada then made a covenant(K) that he, the people and the king[c] would be the Lord’s people. 17 All the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and idols and killed(L) Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars.
18 Then Jehoiada placed the oversight of the temple of the Lord in the hands of the Levitical priests,(M) to whom David had made assignments in the temple,(N) to present the burnt offerings of the Lord as written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and singing, as David had ordered. 19 He also stationed gatekeepers(O) at the gates of the Lord’s temple so that no one who was in any way unclean might enter.
20 He took with him the commanders of hundreds, the nobles, the rulers of the people and all the people of the land and brought the king down from the temple of the Lord. They went into the palace through the Upper Gate(P) and seated the king on the royal throne. 21 All the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was calm, because Athaliah had been slain with the sword.(Q)

23 وَفِي السَّنَةِ السَّابِعَةِ تَشَجَّعَ يَهُويَادَاعُ، وَقَطَعَ عَهْداً مَعَ رُؤَسَاءِ الْمِئَاتِ: عَزَرْيَا بْنِ يَرُوحَامَ، وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ يَهُوحَانَانَ، وَعَزَرْيَا بْنِ عُوبِيدَ، وَمَعَسِيَا بْنِ عَدَايَا، وَأَلِيشَافَاطَ بْنِ زِكْرِي. 2 وَطَافُوا فِي أَرْجَاءِ يَهُوذَا يَسْتَدْعُونَ اللّاوِيِّينَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ مُدُنِ يَهُوذَا وَرُؤَسَاءَ بُيُوتَاتِ إِسْرَائِيلَ لِلْحُضُورِ إِلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ. 3 فَأَقْسَمَ كُلُّ الْمَجْمَعِ يَمِينَ الْوَلاءِ لِلْمَلِكِ فِي هَيْكَلِ اللهِ، وَقَالَ لَهُمْ يَهُويَادَاعُ: «هُوَذَا ابْنُ الْمَلِكِ يَحْكُمُ، كَمَا وَعَدَ الرَّبُّ ذُرِّيَّةَ دَاوُدَ. 4 وَإِلَيْكُمْ مَا يَجِبُ أَنْ تَفْعَلُوهُ: لِيَقُمْ ثُلُثُ الْحُرَّاسِ مِنَ الْكَهَنَةِ وَاللّاوِيِّينَ، الَّذِينَ يَتَوَلَّوْنَ الْخِدْمَةَ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ بِحِرَاسَةِ الأَبْوَابِ. 5 وَالثُّلُثُ الثَّانِي يَحْرُسُ قَصْرَ الْمَلِكِ، وَالثُّلُثُ الثَّالِثُ يَحْرُسُ بَابَ الأَسَاسِ، أَمَّا بَقِيَّةُ الشَّعْبِ فَلْيَحْتَشِدُوا فِي دِيَارِ الْهَيْكَلِ. 6 وَيُحْظَرُ عَلَى غَيْرِ الْكَهَنَةِ وَالَّذِينَ يَخْدُمُونَ مِنَ اللّاوِيِّينَ دُخُولُ هَيْكَلِ الرَّبِّ، لأَنَّهُمْ وَحْدَهُمْ مُقَدَّسُونَ. أَمَّا بَقِيَّةُ الشَّعْبِ فَلْيَقُومُوا بِحِرَاسَةِ مَا عَهَدَ الرَّبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ بِهِ. 7 وَعَلَى اللّاوِيِّينَ الإِحَاطَةُ بِالْمَلِكِ، وَكُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ مُدَجَّجٌ بِسِلاحِهِ. وَلْيُقْتَلْ كُلُّ مَنْ يَتَسَلَّلُ إِلَى الْهَيْكَلِ مِنَ الْغُرَبَاءِ. رَافِقُوا الْمَلِكَ فِي خُرُوجِهِ وَدُخُولِهِ». 8 فَنَفَّذَ اللّاوِيُّونَ وَكُلُّ أَبْنَاءِ يَهُوذَا أَوَامِرَ يَهُويَادَاعَ الْكَاهِنِ، وَجَنَّدَ كُلُّ قَائِدٍ رِجَالَهُ الْقَائِمِينَ عَلَى الْخِدْمَةِ فِي يَوْمِ السَّبْتِ وَالْمُعْفَيْنَ مِنْهَا، لأَنَّ يَهُويَادَاعَ الْكَاهِنَ لَمْ يُسَرِّحْ أَيَّةَ فِرْقَةٍ. 9 فَسَلَّمَ يَهُويَادَاعُ رُؤَسَاءَ الْمِئَاتِ حِرَابَ الْمَلِكِ دَاوُدَ وَدُرُوعَهُ وَأَتْرَاسَهُ، الَّتِي كَانَتْ مَحْفُوظَةً فِي الْهَيْكَلِ، 10 وَأَوْقَفَ جَمِيعَ الْحُرَّاسِ وَكُلُّ وَاحِدٍ سِلاحُهُ بِيَدِهِ مُحِيطِينَ بِالْمَلِكِ، إِلَى جَانِبِ الْمَذْبَحِ وَالْهَيْكَلِ، مِنَ الطَّرَفِ الأَيْمَنِ لِلْهَيْكَلِ حَتَّى الطَّرَفِ الأَيْسَرِ مِنْهُ. 11 ثُمَّ أَخْرَجُوا ابْنَ الْمَلِكِ وَتَوَّجُوهُ، وَأَعْطَوْهُ نُسْخَةً مِنْ شَهَادَةِ الْعَهْدِ، وَنَصَّبُوهُ مَلِكاً. وَمَسَحَهُ يَهُويَادَاعُ وَأَبْنَاؤُهُ هَاتِفِينَ: «لِيَحْيَ الْمَلِكُ!».
12 فَعِنْدَمَا سَمِعَتْ عَثَلْيَا صَوْتَ انْدِفَاعِ الشَّعْبِ، وَهُتَافَاتِ الشَّعْبِ لِلْمَلِكِ، انْدَسَّتْ بَيْنَ الشَّعْبِ فِي هَيْكَلِ الرَّبِّ، 13 فَشَاهَدَتِ الْمَلِكَ مُنْتَصِباً عَلَى مِنْبَرِهِ فِي الْمَدْخَلِ، مُحَاطاً بِالرُّؤَسَاءِ وَنَافِخِي الأَبْوَاقِ، وَقَدْ غَمَرَ الْفَرَحُ شَعْبَ الأَرْضِ، الَّذِي امْتَزَجَتْ هُتَافَاتُهُ بِنَفْخِ الأَبْوَاقِ وَغِنَاءِ الْمُغَنِّينَ الْعَازِفِينَ عَلَى الآلاتِ الْمُوسِيقِيَّةِ وَتَسْبِيحِ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ، فَشَقَّتْ عَثَلْيَا ثِيَابَهَا وَصَاحَتْ: «خِيَانَةٌ! خِيَانَةٌ!» 14 فَبَعَثَ يَهُويَادَاعُ الْكَاهِنُ رُؤَسَاءَ الْمِئَاتِ الْمُوَكَّلِينَ عَلَى الْجَيْشِ قَائِلاً: «خُذُوهَا إِلَى خَارِجِ الصُّفُوفِ وَاقْتُلُوا بِالسَّيْفِ كُلَّ مَنْ يُحَاوِلُ إِنْقَاذَهَا». وَأَمَرَ الْكَاهِنُ أَنْ لَا تُقْتَلَ دَاخِلَ بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ. 15 فَقَبَضُوا عَلَيْهَا وَجَرُّوهَا إِلَى الْمَدْخَلِ الَّذِي تَعْبُرُ مِنْهُ الْخَيْلُ إِلَى سَاحَةِ الْقَصْرِ، وَقُتِلَتْ هُنَاكَ.
16 وَأَبْرَمَ يَهُويَادَاعُ عَهْداً بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ كُلِّ الشَّعْبِ وَبَيْنَ الْمَلِكِ، حَتَّى يَكُونُوا شَعْباً لِلرَّبِّ. 17 وَانْدَفَعَ جَمِيعُ الشَّعْبِ إِلَى مَعْبَدِ الْبَعْلِ، وَهَدَمُوهُ وَحَطَّمُوا مَذَابِحَهُ وَتَمَاثِيلَهُ، وَقَتَلُوا مَتَّانَ كَاهِنَ الْبَعْلِ أَمَامَ الْمَذْبَحِ. 18 وَعَيَّنَ يَهُويَادَاعُ مُشْرِفِينَ عَلَى الْهَيْكَلِ مِنَ الْكَهَنَةِ اللّاوِيِّينَ، مِمَّنْ وَزَّعَ دَاوُدُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاجِبَاتِ خِدْمَةِ الْهَيْكَلِ، لِيُقَرِّبُوا مُحْرَقَاتِ الرَّبِّ بِمُوجِبِ شَرِيعَةِ مُوسَى، فَرِحِينَ مُغَنِّينَ حَسَبَ مَا أَمَرَ دَاوُدُ. 19 وَأَقَامَ حُرَّاساً عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الْهَيْكَلِ لِئَلّا يَدْخُلَ إِلَيْهِ أَيُّ وَاحِدٍ غَيْرِ طَاهِرٍ لِسَبَبٍ مَا. 20 ثُمَّ اصْطَحَبَ مَعَهُ رُؤَسَاءَ الْمِئَاتِ وَالْعُظَمَاءَ وَحُكَّامَ الأُمَّةِ وَسَائِرَ الشَّعْبِ وَأَنْزَلَ الْمَلِكَ مِنْ بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ مُجْتَازِينَ مِنْ الْبَابِ الأَعْلَى إِلَى قَصْرِ الْمَلِكِ، حَيْثُ أَجْلَسُوهُ عَلَى عَرْشِ الْمَمْلَكَةِ. 21 وَعَمَّ الْفَرَحُ شَعْبَ الْبِلادِ، وَغَمَرَ السَّلامُ الْمَدِينَةَ، بَعْدَ مَقْتَلِ عَثَلْيَا بِالسَّيْفِ.

Conjura contra Atalía y entronización de Joás (2 Re 11,4-20)
23 El séptimo año Joyadá se armó de valor y tomó consigo a los centuriones Azarías, hijo de Jeroján, Ismael, hijo de Yojanán, Azarías, hijo de Obed, Maasías, hijo de Adaías, y Elisafat, hijo de Zicrí. Hicieron un pacto 2 y recorrieron Judá convocando a los levitas de todas las ciudades de Judá y a los cabezas de familia de Israel para ir a Jerusalén. 3 Luego toda la asamblea selló un pacto con el rey en el Templo de Dios, y Joyadá les dijo:
— Les presento al príncipe que debe reinar, tal como el Señor prometió a los descendientes de David. 4 Esto es lo que harán: el tercio de sacerdotes y levitas que entra de servicio el sábado hará guardia en las puertas; 5 otro tercio se ocupará del palacio real, y el otro de la puerta de la Fundación, mientras todo el pueblo se quedará en los atrios del Templo del Señor. 6 Nadie entrará en el Templo del Señor, a excepción de los sacerdotes y los levitas que estén de servicio, que podrán entrar por estar consagrados. Pero el resto de la gente observará las prescripciones del Señor. 7 Los levitas rodearán completamente al rey con las armas en la mano y si alguien intenta entrar en palacio, lo matan. Tienen que acompañar al rey a todas partes.
8 Los levitas y todo Judá hicieron todo lo que el sacerdote Joyadá les había ordenado: cada uno con sus hombres, tanto los que entraban de servicio el sábado, como los que salían, pues el sacerdote Joyadá no había licenciado a ningún turno. 9 El sacerdote Joyadá entregó a los centuriones las lanzas y los escudos grandes y pequeños del rey David que se guardaban en el Templo; 10 al mismo tiempo distribuyó a toda la gente empuñando sus armas, desde el ala derecha del Templo hasta el ala izquierda, entre el altar y el Templo, alrededor del rey. 11 Entonces sacaron al príncipe, le entregaron la corona y el testimonio y lo proclamaron rey. Joyadá y sus hijos lo ungieron, aclamándolo:
— ¡Viva el rey!
12 Atalía oyó el griterío del pueblo que corría y aclamaba al rey, y se acercó a la gente que estaba en el Templo del Señor. 13 Cuando vio al rey de pie sobre el estrado, junto a la entrada, a los oficiales y a los que tocaban las trompetas junto al rey, y a todo el pueblo de fiesta, mientras sonaban las trompetas y los cantores con los instrumentos musicales entonaban cánticos de alabanza, se rasgó las vestiduras y gritó:
— ¡Traición! ¡Traición!
14 El sacerdote Joyadá ordenó a los centuriones que estaban al mando del ejército:
— Sáquenla de las filas y maten a cuchillo al que la siga.
Como el sacerdote había ordenado que no la matasen en el Templo, 15 le echaron mano cuando entraba en el palacio por la puerta de las caballerías y la mataron allí.
16 Joyadá selló un pacto con el rey y con todo el pueblo, que se comprometió a ser el pueblo del Señor. 17 Entonces toda la gente se dirigió al templo de Baal y lo destruyeron, hicieron trizas sus altares e imágenes y degollaron ante los altares a Matán, el sacerdote de Baal. 18 Luego Joyadá puso guardia en el Templo del Señor a las órdenes de los sacerdotes y levitas que David había asignado al Templo del Señor para ofrecer holocaustos al Señor, conforme está escrito en la ley de Moisés, con los cantos de alegría compuestos por David; 19 y colocó porteros a las puertas del Templo del Señor, para impedir la entrada de personas impuras por cualquier causa. 20 Finalmente tomó consigo a los centuriones, a los notables, a las autoridades y a toda la gente, bajó al rey desde el Templo, lo llevaron hasta el palacio real por la puerta superior y sentaron al rey en el trono real. 21 Todo el pueblo hizo fiesta y la ciudad quedó tranquila, una vez que Atalía había muerto a filo de espada.
