Jehoram Reigns in Judah
21 (A)Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and Jehoram his son reigned in his place. 2 He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of (B)Israel.[a] 3 Their father gave them great gifts of silver, gold, and valuable possessions, together with (C)fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn. 4 When Jehoram had ascended the throne of his father and was established, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of (D)Israel. 5 (E)Jehoram was (F)thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 6 (G)And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for (H)the daughter of Ahab was his wife. And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. 7 Yet the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and since he had promised to give (I)a lamp to him and to his sons forever.
8 In his days Edom revolted from the (J)rule of Judah and set up a king of their own. 9 Then Jehoram passed over with his commanders and all his chariots, and he rose by night and struck the Edomites who had surrounded him and his chariot commanders. 10 So Edom revolted from (K)the rule of Judah to this day. At that time Libnah also revolted from his rule, because he had forsaken the Lord, the God of his fathers.
11 Moreover, he made high places in the hill country of Judah and led the inhabitants of Jerusalem (L)into whoredom and made Judah go astray. 12 And a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father, (M)‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, or (N)in the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13 (O)but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel and have enticed Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem (P)into whoredom, (Q)as the house of Ahab led Israel into whoredom, and also you (R)have killed your brothers, of your father's house, who were better than you, 14 behold, the Lord will bring a great plague on your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions, 15 and you yourself will have a severe sickness (S)with a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the disease, day by day.’”
16 (T)And the Lord stirred up against Jehoram the anger[b] of the Philistines and of (U)the Arabians who are near the Ethiopians. 17 And they came up against Judah and invaded it and carried away all the possessions they found that belonged to the king's house, and also his sons and his wives, so that no son was left to him except (V)Jehoahaz, his youngest son.
18 And after all this the Lord struck him (W)in his bowels with an incurable disease. 19 In the course of time, at the end of two years, his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great agony. His people made no fire in his honor, (X)like the fires made for his fathers. 20 (Y)He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed (Z)with no one's regret. (AA)They buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

21 Then Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Jehoram(A) his son succeeded him as king. 2 Jehoram’s brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael and Shephatiah. All these were sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.[a] 3 Their father had given them many gifts(B) of silver and gold and articles of value, as well as fortified cities(C) in Judah, but he had given the kingdom to Jehoram because he was his firstborn son.
Jehoram King of Judah(D)
4 When Jehoram established(E) himself firmly over his father’s kingdom, he put all his brothers(F) to the sword along with some of the officials of Israel. 5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 6 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel,(G) as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab.(H) He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 7 Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David,(I) the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David.(J) He had promised to maintain a lamp(K) for him and his descendants forever.
8 In the time of Jehoram, Edom(L) rebelled against Judah and set up its own king. 9 So Jehoram went there with his officers and all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night. 10 To this day Edom has been in rebellion against Judah.
Libnah(M) revolted at the same time, because Jehoram had forsaken the Lord, the God of his ancestors. 11 He had also built high places on the hills of Judah and had caused the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves and had led Judah astray.
12 Jehoram received a letter from Elijah(N) the prophet, which said:
“This is what the Lord, the God of your father(O) David, says: ‘You have not followed the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa(P) king of Judah. 13 But you have followed the ways of the kings of Israel, and you have led Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab did.(Q) You have also murdered your own brothers, members of your own family, men who were better(R) than you. 14 So now the Lord is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives and everything that is yours, with a heavy blow. 15 You yourself will be very ill with a lingering disease(S) of the bowels, until the disease causes your bowels to come out.’”
16 The Lord aroused against Jehoram the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs(T) who lived near the Cushites. 17 They attacked Judah, invaded it and carried off all the goods found in the king’s palace, together with his sons and wives. Not a son was left to him except Ahaziah,[b] the youngest.(U)
18 After all this, the Lord afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels. 19 In the course of time, at the end of the second year, his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great pain. His people made no funeral fire in his honor,(V) as they had for his predecessors.
20 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He passed away, to no one’s regret, and was buried(W) in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

21 (A) Joshafat gick till vila hos sina fäder och blev begravd hos sina fäder i Davids stad. Hans son Joram blev kung efter honom.
Joram blir kung i Juda
2 Joram hade bröder, söner till Joshafat: Asarja, Jehiel, Sakarja, Asarjahu, Mikael och Shefatja. Alla dessa var söner till Joshafat, Israels kung. 3 Deras far gav dem många gåvor i silver och guld och andra dyrbarheter, dessutom befästa städer i Juda. Men kungadömet gav han åt Joram, eftersom han var den förstfödde. 4 När Joram hade tagit över sin fars kungadöme och stärkt sin ställning dödade han alla sina bröder med svärd, liksom några av Israels furstar.
5 (B) Joram var trettiotvå år när han blev kung, och han regerade åtta år[a] i Jerusalem. 6 Men han vandrade på Israels kungars väg, så som Ahabs hus hade gjort, för hans hustru var en dotter till Ahab[b]. Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens ögon. 7 (C) Men Herren ville inte fördärva Davids hus, på grund av det förbund som han hade slutit med David. Han hade lovat att han och hans söner skulle ha en lampa för alltid.
8 (D) I hans tid avföll Edom[c] från Juda välde och satte en egen kung över sig. 9 Då drog Joram dit med sina befälhavare och alla sina vagnar. Han bröt upp på natten och slog edomiterna, som hade omringat honom, och befälhavarna över deras vagnar. 10 Så avföll Edom från Juda välde, och det har varit skilt därifrån ända till denna dag. Vid samma tid avföll också Libna[d] från Jorams välde, därför att han hade övergett Herren, sina fäders Gud. 11 Också han uppförde offerhöjder på bergen i Juda och förledde så Jerusalems invånare till trolöshet och förförde Juda.
12 Och det kom ett brev till honom från profeten Elia där det stod: ”Så säger Herren, din fader Davids Gud: Du har inte vandrat på din far Joshafats vägar eller på Juda kung Asas vägar, 13 utan du har vandrat på Israels kungars väg och förlett Juda och Jerusalems invånare till avgudadyrkan, på samma sätt som Ahabs hus har gjort. Du har dräpt dina bröder, dem som hörde till din fars hus och som var bättre än du. 14 Se, Herren ska straffa ditt folk, dina barn och dina hustrur och allt du äger med en stor olycka. 15 Och du ska själv drabbas av en sjukdom i dina inälvor, tills dina inälvor efter en tid faller ut till följd av sjukdomen.”
16 Och Herren eggade upp mot Joram filisteerna och de araber som bodde nära nubierna[e]. 17 De drog upp mot Juda och bröt in där och förde bort alla dyrbarheter som fanns i kungapalatset, dessutom hans söner och hustrur, så att han inte hade kvar någon av sina söner utom Joahas,[f] sin yngste son. 18 Sedan slog Herren honom med en obotlig sjukdom i inälvorna. 19 (E) Och efter en tid, när två år hade gått, föll hans inälvor ut till följd av sjukdomen och han dog i svåra plågor.
Hans folk tände inte något bål till hans ära, så som de hade gjort efter hans fäder. 20 (F) Han var trettiotvå år när han blev kung, och han regerade åtta år i Jerusalem. Han gick bort utan att någon saknade honom, och man begravde honom i Davids stad, men inte i kungagravarna.

Reinado de Joram
21 Josafat durmió con sus padres, y fue sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de David. Su hijo Joram reinó en su lugar(A). 2 Tenía varios hermanos, los hijos de Josafat: Azarías, Jehiel, Zacarías, Azaryahu, Micael y Sefatías. Todos estos eran hijos de Josafat, rey de Israel(B). 3 Su padre les había dado muchos presentes de plata, oro y cosas preciosas, y[a] ciudades fortificadas en Judá(C), pero dio el reino a Joram porque era el primogénito.
4 Cuando Joram tomó posesión del[b] reino de su padre y se hizo fuerte, mató a espada a todos sus hermanos(D), y también a algunos de los jefes de Israel. 5 (E)Joram tenía treinta y dos años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó ocho años en Jerusalén. 6 Y anduvo en el camino de los reyes de Israel(F), tal como había hecho la casa de Acab (pues la hija de Acab era su mujer(G)), e hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor. 7 Sin embargo, el Señor no quiso destruir la casa de David a causa del pacto que había hecho con David, y porque le había prometido[c] darle una lámpara[d] a él y a sus hijos para siempre(H).
8 En sus días se rebeló Edom contra el dominio[e] de Judá(I), y pusieron rey sobre ellos. 9 Entonces pasó Joram con sus capitanes, y todos sus carros con él. Y levantándose de noche, atacó[f] a los edomitas que lo tenían cercado a él y a los capitanes de los carros. 10 Y Edom continuó en rebeldía contra el dominio[g] de Judá hasta el día de hoy. 12 Entonces le llegó a Joram una carta del profeta Elías, que decía: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de tu padre David: “Por cuanto no has andado en los caminos de Josafat(L) tu padre, ni en los caminos de Asa(M), rey de Judá, 13 sino que has andado en el camino de los reyes de Israel(N), y has hecho que Judá y los habitantes de Israel se hayan prostituido como se prostituyó la casa de Acab(O), y también has matado a tus hermanos(P), tu propia familia[h], que eran mejores que tú, 14 el Señor herirá con gran azote[i] a tu pueblo, a tus hijos, a tus mujeres y a todas tus posesiones; 15 y tú sufrirás una grave enfermedad[j], una enfermedad(Q) de los intestinos, hasta que día tras día se te[k] salgan a causa de la enfermedad”».
16 Entonces el Señor movió contra(R) Joram el espíritu de los filisteos y de los árabes(S) que eran vecinos[l] de los etíopes; 17 los cuales subieron contra Judá y la invadieron, y se llevaron todas las posesiones que se hallaban en la casa del rey, y también a sus hijos y a sus mujeres, de modo que no le quedó más hijo que Joacaz[m](T), el menor de sus hijos.
18 Después de todo esto, el Señor hirió a Joram en los intestinos con una enfermedad incurable(U). 19 Con el correr del tiempo, después de dos años, los intestinos se le salieron a causa de su enfermedad, y murió con grandes dolores. Su pueblo no le encendió una hoguera como la hoguera que habían encendido por sus padres(V). 20 Joram tenía treinta y dos años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó ocho años en Jerusalén; y murió sin que nadie lo lamentara[n](W). Lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, pero no en los sepulcros de los reyes(X).
